Russell never listens to me: ten Doeschate

Kolkata Knight Riders were staring down the barrel at 21/4 against Chennai Super Kings. Ryan ten Doeschate started the recovery process but it took a blitz from Andre Russell to get KKR over the line by three wickets. His 25-ball 58 helped him win the Man of the Match but ten Doeschate’s unbeaten 51 off 41 balls should not be forgotten.

Speaking in the post match press conference, ten Doeschate said that it was a very good wicket. “I realised from the first ball that it was a good wicket. If we batted the full 20 overs, there was a good chance that we could win the match. The ball was coming on nicely and there was some good bounce. It was a bit on the slower side occasionally,” he said. His 80-run partnership with Russell changed the course of the match. During the course of the partnership, ten Doeschate said that Russell did not listen to him. “I told him to relax and pick his balls to hit. The way he was hitting the ball, he just took the game away from the opponents in the space of six overs,” he said.
