In last year’s RCB team jersey launch event, ViratKohli said “The more we enjoy cricket, it will be that much better in IPL. In IPL there is a lot of enjoyment of players. Everybody is relaxed coming from international schedule. There is a good atmosphere and we will try to utilize it. The T20 event actually helps players relax and enjoy themselves.”

IPL provides tremendous amount of exposure and money to the players who get selected. In terms of performance and fame, two really good finds in IPL have been Mohit Sharma and Sanju Samson. In a large cricket-crazy country like India, many a talent can go to waste if they are not given a proper chance. It also gives these youngsters a chance to share a dressing room and pick the brains of the biggest stars of the game.

In an interview, the Bangladesh player Shakib Al Hasan admitted that playing for Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League has helped him grow as a cricketer and it will enable him to plan against the likes of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, ViratKohli, ShikharDhawan and Suresh Raina. He said, “Obviously, having played in the IPL will help me plan well against these players. Also I can pass on information to my team mates which will be beneficial. Actually, all the top six of Indian line-up are world class players and potential game-changers. We have to ensure that they can’t build big partnerships and also more important ones among the six get out early”.

The IPL experience is invaluable for the talented youngsters, craving for a chance. Each minute under the lights, in front of a thousands of strong crowd is akin to a whole Ranji match in terms of giving the player a feel of how it is to play in international match.
