350 dismissals for MS Dhoni as a wicketkeeper in ODIs
MS DHONI has achieved yet another milestone in his already glorious Cricketing career, this time behind the wicket though during the third and final ODI between India and Zimbabwe at Harare on Wednesday. His catch to dismiss Elton Chigumbura off Jasprit Bumrah was his 350th dismissal in his one-day international career. Dhoni is now placed at the fourth spot in the list of wicketkeepers with most number of dismissals in ODIs after Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara (482 dismissals in 404 matches), Australia’s Adam Gilchrist (472 dismissals in 287 matches) and South Africa’s Mark Boucher (424 dismissals in 295 matches).
Out of Dhoni’s 350 dismissals in 278 ODI matches, 261 are catches and 89 are stumpings. When it comes to stumpings only Sangakkara with 99 stumpings is ahead of him. Dhoni needs 11 more stumpings to become the first wicketkeeper to effect 100 stumpings in the history of ODI Cricket. When it comes to the overall dismissals behind the wicket in International Cricket then, MS Dhoni with 704 victims in 436 matches is placed at third in the all-time list only behind Mark Boucher (998 in 467 matches) and Adam Gilchrist (905 in 396 matches).
Dhoni certainly will go down as the greatest wicketkeeper India have ever produced as he is leading everyone by a long margin. After Dhoni India’s next best wicketkeeper is Nayan Mongia with 154 dismissals (110 catches + 44 stumings) from 154 matches and Kiran More with 90 (63 catches + 27 stumpings) from 90 games.
