The first man to break the 10,000 runs barrier in Test Cricket , the little master of Indian Cricket Sunil Gavaskar feels that England’s test skipper Alastair Cook, who recently became the youngest batsman ever to score 10,000 test runs can even challenge the Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar’s all-time Test runs record, who is there at the very top with 15921 Test runs.

“The big advantage that England always have is that they are always playing a minimum of 11-12 Test matches on an average in a year. In 11-12 Test matches even if you score 50 runs per Test match you are getting about 500 runs every year.” Gavaskar said.

The Mumbai maestro (Sunil Gavaskar) further went on to say that : “Over the next 6-7 years there might be a period when he (Cook) might have a terrific year where he might score a 1000 runs, so that will certainly give him a chance. He has got age on his side, he is also one of the very fit players going around. He is less than 32 years and if he plays for 6-8 more years he has got a very good chance.”

At Present the Master Blaster ‘Sachin Tendulkar’ leads Alastair Cook by 5879 runs after playing 73 more Tests. Although Alastair Cook has age on his side but still 6000 Test runs are a lot of runs to get. Only time will tell whether Alastair Cook can gets there or not, for now enjoy the journey of one of best opening batsman England have ever produced.
