Sri Lankan batting legend Kumar Sangakkara picked his all-time XI in which he included four Australians and three players from Sri Lanka, one Indian and guess what it’s not the batting great Sachin Tendulkar, it’s the Mr. dependable Rahul Dravid.
Former Sri Lankan batsman Aravinda de Silva is the captain of the squad, which has Australia’s Matthew Hayden and ‘the wall’ of Indian cricket Rahul Dravid to open the innings. His all-time favorite batsman Brian Lara is at the 3rd spot, and the former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting, who had led them to the World Cup title wins is at no.4.
He found it hard to choose between de Silva and Mahela Jayawardene for the no.5 spot and he went for de Silva by saying that both Mahela and him consider de Silve as Sri Lanka’s greatest ever batsman. Jacques Kallis of South Africa is probably one of the finest all-rounders and he is at no.6. Adam Gilchrist has taken the gloves for his side.
At 8 and 9, he has selected two of the finest spinners the cricketing world – Shane Warne and Muttiah Muralitharan. He said that he would always have them as they are good enough in any conditions irrespective of the wicket and conditions.
Former left-arm fast bowler from Pakistan, Wasim Akram with his high skill along with his former teammate Chaminda Vaas as the pace bowlers to complete his eleven.
Kumar Sangakkara’s XI: Matthew Hayden, Rahul Dravid, Brian Lara, Ricky Ponting, Aravinda De Silva (c), Jacques Kallis, Adam Gilchrist (wk), Shane Warne, Muttiah Muralitharan, Wasim Akram, Chaminda Vaas.
