AUSTRALIA WILL BE FAVOURITE AGAINST SRI LANKA THINKS MURALITHARAN

Sri Lanka’s legendary spinner Muralitharan said Australia will start as favourite against Sri Lanka in the upcoming Test Series. Muralitharan in an interview to cricket.com.au said Australia have ab upper hand over Sri Lanka in the upcoming Test Series. “Australia are the favourites at the moment because they have played good cricket in the recent past. Sri Lanka on other hand are struggling a bit in all forms of the game, so Australia will have an edge over Sri Lanka. They have a chance of winning the series because the Sri Lankan side is very inexperienced. If they use the conditions properly and play their spinners well they definitely have a chance,” Muralitharan said to cricket.com.au.

Sri Lanka will play in their home ground against Australia. Muralitharan feels that Rangana Herath will be the threat for Australian side in particular Sri Lankan pitches. He said to cricket.com.au that, “Normally you have to play at least two spinners in Sri Lanka because wickets are slower. It is not just about how many spinners you have got. It is also about how well you are going to bat against spin. Ranagana Herath is a very good bowler who Australia will have to tackle well.”. Muralitharan also said that Nathan Lyon might be the match winner for Australian side.  “Lyon is a very good bowler, a very good off-spinner. He has proven himself in Test cricket and has taken a lot of wickets for Australia. I think it’ll be a good opportunity for him to play in Sri Lanka because here wickets will have turn, especially in Galle. I think Nathan Lyon’s performance is very good, so he is one of the bowlers who are leading the attack in the Australian squad,” Muralitharan added. Australia will play three test matches followed by five ODIs and two T20Is starting from July 26, 2016.

I think if Shah is fit he can be the trump card in a varied bowling attack,” Wasim Akram said. He further went on to say that. It won’t be easy for him, My advice to him will be to enjoy the game, he has got pace and skill so go out and try to do his best.”

Wasim Akram also said that,  “England have shown remarkable confidence in the last 18 months, beating South Africa in South Africa, qualifying for the final of the World Twenty20 and winning against Sri Lanka, so they will be tough to beat. For me the only way is to do ‘tit for tat’ in all departments of the game if you want to beat them.”

North America or UAE may host the first ever mini-IPL

The mini-IPL which was announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India few weeks earlier. The league is expected to be held in September. Fresh reports have suggested that it can either be held in North America or UAE. BCCI is expected to take the final call on either of the two venues soon.

According to a report by a leading daily of India, India’s Cricket board has begun deliberations with broadcasters Star India. BCCI is also expected to call a meeting with the franchisees soon to discuss about the tournament.

September is usually a break from international cricket. Earlier the Champions League used to be held during that time period. But it was scrapped in 2014 as it was not deemed profitable. The Mini-IPL is being held to replace the Champions League.

Two probable names of venues for the tournament have come up for discussion. North America has a potential fan base of cricket going by the success of last year’s All-Stars Series held between Sachin’s Blasters and Warne’s Warriors.

However, UAE is also a viable option as the match timings would match with the Indian and subcontinent time zone.

ENGLAND vs SRI LANKA 5th ODI PREVIEW : CONFIDENT ENGLAND LOOK TO FINISH THE SERIES ON HIGH

After winning the fourth ODI, England have already clinched the series. Now they will be looking forward to continue their momentum and finish the series with the win. On the other hand, Sri Lanka will try to finish the series on positive note by winning this ODI. However, it is not a meaningless match, there are ranking positions to play for and victory for England would ensure they move to fifth in ODI table.

Sri Lanka’s performance in the whole tour was not so impressive. Although their batting has shown promise, but their bowling performance have been below average. Sri Lankan bowlers have no clue for England mighty batting line up.  In the fourth ODI, Sri Lanka were looking good after posting a big total of 305 in 42 overs.  But again it became another canter as Jason Roy plundered 162 runs to snatch the victory from Lankans. Jason Roy was looking unstoppable as he scored second century of the series. After suffering early blow as Moeen Ali got out early, Joe Root and Jason Roy took the Sri Lankan bowlers and played their shots all around the park.

England on the other side could go through some changes in the fifth ODI. England have dominated throughout in the series. Apart from first match, their middle orders have not been tested much while bowlers have been disciplined. Eoin Morgan are doing good job as a captain and that’s exactly what the hosts will need in the last ODI too.

In the Tri Nation ODI Series, South Africa could manage to win only two of their six matches against West Indies and Australia. A disastrous collapse in the must win final league match against West Indies in Barbados again brought to the fore the Proteas’ choking tendency in crunch situations. On the other hand, South African coach Russell Domingo said that he would not quit the post despite the poor show of South Africa. “I’ve obviously got to sit down with my management team and board members and plan a way forward, “I’ve got 10 months left of my contract and although the last six months haven’t gone according to plan, I’m not a guy to give up or quit. I’ve got a few days at home now to just mull over a few things and see where things are going.,” Russell Domingo said.

Before the early exit in ICC World T20, South Africa lost to England in the Test Series in their home ground. Although South Africa won ODI series against England and also against India in Freedom Series in October-November 2015. Due to inconsistent performance, South African coach has said that the Board members and team management will sit down in future and resolve the issues that had led to repeated failures of Proteas’. Russell Domingo said that, “I feel the management team is the right one. We’ve provided the players with as much support as possible and we are still very motivated to do well. We feel we can take the team forward but the ultimate decision does not lie with us.”
