After a long break from International cricket, Mohammed Shami making his comeback from upcoming West Indies Tour. Mohammed Shami said he is looking forward to playing in West Indies for the Test Series.  Mohammed Shami told bcci.tv that, “I have played there earlier and I haven’t found them (the pitches) to be that different. They are almost similar to India. Yes, in the earlier times we would hear that the wicket is bouncy and all that. But, now the wickets are similar to those in Asia.”

Mohammed Shami further went on to say that, “So, there is no need to be excited as a fast bowler that you will get bounce and carry. According to me, it is important to focus on line and length. I have an idea of the conditions and one will have to be prepared.” Mohammed Shami has last played a Test Match in January 2015 before he got injured.

Mohammed Shami also said that West Indies will be a tough challenge on their home ground for us. “West Indies is the kind of team that can give you a run for your money on a given day and so you have to be very focused and aware. We have to focus on line and length. I will try to give my best and as a unit the effort would be to bowl tight spells and get wickets,” he further added.

Anil Kumble brush-off having any conflict of interest in becoming India’s coach

India’s newly appointed coach Anil Kumble has dismissed reports of conflict of interest between his new job and his involvement in a sports firm as well as heading the ICC Cricket committee.

The legendary leg-spinner, who was named for this high profile post last week, is reportedly involved with a company called Tenvic, which is in the business of sports and consulting.

The former Indian captain said all issues have been addressed before signing on the dotted line and he will also continue as Chairman of the ICC Cricket Committee. “There is absolutely no conflict of interest. All things have been addressed,” Kumble said.

“There is the ICC Cricket Committee, for which I will not be able to dedicate as much time. However, I see no reason why I cannot continue as its chairman. There are other national coaches like Darren Lehmann on the committee. [Also part of it are] Andrew Strauss, who is England and Wales Cricket Board director, England Cricket, and Dravid, who is the India A coach,” he told ‘The Week’ in an interview.

He also made it clear that his application for the post of coach was sent before the deadline. “The application was sent well within the time limit. I am surprised at reports of me applying after the deadline surfaced.”

He admitted that he felt “a bit strange” while appearing for the interview before his former team-mates.

“I mean, we guys have held so many meetings in the past to discuss the game…. It was a pretty nervous idea, meeting them like this,” said the 45-year-old former leg-spinner who is India’s highest Test wicket taker.

Kumble said as coach his main aim would be to see Indian team excel in all the three formats and in all conditions.

“To be a consistent team. (We have to) look to win everywhere — on all surfaces, in all conditions — and not just at home,” he said. True to his nature, Kumble said he would try to take everybody on board while taking decisions.

“I alone will not decide and strive to achieve that; everybody involved must be on the same page, sit down and plan to achieve this goal. The coach’s role is to be in the background. It is always players first,” he said. “One needs to achieve a consensus. If the team doesn’t buy into the idea, I cannot force things. If the team does not own the idea, it can never feel comfortable implementing it.

“It is great that Sachin Tendulkar, V V S Laxman and Sourav Ganguly, who is also an administrator, are all in the CAC. There is Rahul Dravid, too, who is the India A and under 19 coach. We all are trying to contribute to the game in various ways. We will all have to sit down and do what is needed to take Indian cricket forward,” he added.

ENGLAND vs SRI LANKA 4th ODI PREVIEW : ENGLAND WILL LOOK TO CLINCH THE SERIES

Sri Lanka's Tour of England, England and Wales Cricket Board, Sri Lanka Cricket, England vs Sri Lanka, ENGvsSL, ODI, ODI Cricket, Morgan, Mathews, Hales, Root, Bairstow, Mathews, Chandimal, Kushal Perera, Woakes, Willey, Plunkett, Pradeep, Lakmal, Randiv, Trevor Bayliss, Grahm Ford

After 3 ODIs in the series with 3 different results, England will be looking forward to seal the series in the fourth ODI against Sri Lanka at the Kia Oval, London. On the other hand, Sri Lanka will try  to stay alive in the series by winning fourth ODI. After suffering 2-0 loss in the Test Series against England, Sri Lanka thrashed Ireland in the shorter format of the game. After winning ODI series against Ireland, Sri Lanka were expected to put up a tough competition to the well balanced England side in the ODI series, but they couldn’t win a single match till now in the series. After 3 match, Sri Lanka found themselves 1-0 down.

On the other side, England will confirm ODI series for them by winning this match. England Team looks very balanced as Alex Hales and Jason Roy getting runs in the top order. Apart from first ODI, middle order has not been tested much while the bowling has been disciplined. Morgan is doing a great job as a captain and that’s  exactly what the hosts will need at the Kia, Oval to clinch the series.

Sri Lanka, on the other hand have struggled against England bowlers. Their top orders have been failed as Kushal Perera and Danushka Gunathilaka did not contribute much as an opener for Sri Lanka. Most of the batsman didn’t convert their start to a big total by virtue of which Sri Lanka never looked comfortable with the bat and could not post a big total on the board against mighty England batting. In the bowling department, Sri Lankan bowlers were below average. In the second ODI, defending 255 odd runs, Sri Lankan bowler could not manage to take a single wicket, eventually England had won that match by 10 wickets. Both the openers got easy hundreds. Sri Lanka will definitely have to lift their performance if they have to stay alive in the series.

Rahul Dravid the lone Indian representative in Sangakkara’s All-Time XI

Kumar Sangakkara, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Brian Lara, Matthew Hayden, Aravinda de silva, Ricky Ponting, Adam Gilchrist, Jacques Kallis, Shane Warne, Wasim Akram, Muralitharan, Chaminda Vaas, Lord's, All time XI

Sri Lankan batting legend Kumar Sangakkara picked his all-time XI in which he included four Australians and three players from Sri Lanka, one Indian and guess what it’s not the batting great Sachin Tendulkar, it’s the Mr. dependable Rahul Dravid.

Former Sri Lankan batsman Aravinda de Silva is the captain of the squad, which has Australia’s Matthew Hayden and ‘the wall’ of Indian cricket Rahul Dravid to open the innings. His all-time favorite batsman Brian Lara is at the 3rd spot, and the former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting, who had led them to the World Cup title wins is at no.4.

He found it hard to choose between de Silva and Mahela Jayawardene for the no.5 spot and he went for de Silva by saying that both Mahela and him consider de Silve as Sri Lanka’s greatest ever batsman. Jacques Kallis of South Africa is probably one of the finest all-rounders and he is at no.6. Adam Gilchrist has taken the gloves for his side.

At 8 and 9, he has selected two of the finest spinners the cricketing world – Shane Warne and Muttiah Muralitharan. He said that he would always have them as they are good enough in any conditions irrespective of the wicket and conditions.

Former left-arm fast bowler from Pakistan, Wasim Akram with his high skill along with his former teammate Chaminda Vaas as the pace bowlers to complete his eleven.

Kumar Sangakkara’s XI: Matthew Hayden, Rahul Dravid, Brian Lara, Ricky Ponting, Aravinda De Silva (c), Jacques Kallis, Adam Gilchrist (wk), Shane Warne, Muttiah Muralitharan, Wasim Akram, Chaminda Vaas.

Virat Kohli thanks German mid-fielder Toni Kroos for the gesture

Virat Kohli, Toni Kroos, Cricket, Football, Germany, India

India’s star batsman Virat Kohli is a big time Football aficionado and a self-confessed Germany fan as he had previously acknowledged it on twitter and also had expressed his support for the team in the ongoing Euro 2016. Kohli few weeks back posted a picture of him, donning the Germany jersey and conveyed the message that he is all in for Germany. The jersey which Kohli donned had the number 18  printed on it, which also happens to be German mid-fielder Toni Kroos’s number. Following Kohli’s support for Germany, Toni Kroos had promised to return the favour by sending him a gift soon.

True to his words, Kroos, despite being going through the hectic Euro 2016 campaign, took some time off from his busy schedule and kept his promise by sending Kohli a signed jersey.

Kohli took to his twitter handle to thank Kroos for the gift and wished luck to Kroos and Germany for the quarters. Kohli also promised a return gift to Kroos.

Virat Kohli (imVkohli) tweeted:

Germany will now lock horns with Italy in the quarter-final on Sunday and Kroos will have a huge role to play. Kohli, on the other hand, is preparing for his next assignment, which will be to lead the Indian side for the four-match Test series in West Indies starting from July 21.

The skill levels the Pakistan team have are unbelievable: Mickey Arthur

Pakistan coach Mickey Arthur has arrived back in England saying that while he may have learnt from his time in charge of Australia and it will not alter his fundamental approach to the job.

Arthur’s last tour of England saw him sacked as Australia coach just weeks before the start of the 2013 Ashes following the team’s first round exit from the ICC Champions Trophy.

Now the major challenge for Arthur is to get the best out of a talented Pakistani squad that includes Mohammad Amir, with the left-arm pacer set to return in Test Cricket at Lord’s next month since the 2010 spot-fixing scandal which led to five-year bans and jail terms for him, new-ball partner Mohammad Asif and then captain Salman Butt.

Arthur, speaking at Hampshire’s headquarters ground where the Pakistan squad were training on Monday, believes he has absorbed the lessons of his Australia exit, even if he is unhappy with the way it was portrayed in public.

“You go back and analyse and think about it, and I’ve obviously learnt a hell of a lot from that experience,” said Arthur.

“But I haven’t changed my style, because I don’t think you could compromise on what you think is the right way to work … on your core values and principles.”

“I am sick and tired of talking about ‘homework-gate’, and the way it’s been reported is totally way off the pace of what happened.” added the 48-year old.

The rest of the world has always been in awe of the sheer depth of natural cricket talent in Pakistan and after spending some time with the squad and noticing the players from close quarters, Arthur is no exception.

“It has been an eye opener,” he said. “The skill levels the Pakistan team have are unbelievable.

“The ability to do things the other two (international) teams I’ve coached couldn’t do is incredible.”

“What the other teams (South Africa and Australia) had was fitness levels, structures and self-discipline in knowing their own game.” Arthur added.

“I’m trying to get patience into the skills. I was watching Mohammad Amir and Sohail Khan yesterday (Sunday) — and they went outswinger, outswinger, inswinger — I said just hold those lines a little bit longer.

“The patience isn’t where the other teams are, but the skill levels are higher. I’m trying to bring that patience to the skill levels and together you’ll have something very very good.”

In the latest ICC ODI Rankings India has moved a spot up to number three position, which is being headed by world champions Australia.

South Africa weren’t able to perform as well as they would have liked to in the recently concluded triangular series played in the Caribbean islands against Australia and West Indies. So their rating points have reduced by 2 points and have now moved to the fourth place in ODI rankings.

With 110 rating points in its kitty, India are placed below Australia (123 Points) and second-placed New Zealand (113 Points). Both India and South Africa are on 110 rating points, but India is ahead in terms of decimal fraction. The team led by MS Dhoni, whitewashed Zimbabwe 3-0 earlier this month and that has helped them move up the rankings.

Australia have retained its number-one ranking following the tri-nation series win in the Caribbean. Although they suffer a loss of 1 rating point but still, they have a margin of 10 points from the second best position that is held by New Zealand.

The biggest gainer from the tri-series is the West Indies. After beating the world champions Australia once and South Africa twice, West Indies have gained 7 points and are now ahead of 9th place Pakista

Sri Lanka and England, which are in the midst of their ODI series, have also swapped places after three matches with England moving ahead of Sri Lanka.

ICC Player Rankings for ODI batsmen, India’s Virat Kohli is placed second while Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan occupy the sixth and eighth positions respectively. South Africa’s AB de Villiers has continued to lead the ODI batsmen chart while his countryman Hashim Amla is placed at third position.

Meanwhile, Top 10 ICC ODI bowlers list doesn’t have any Indian in it. West Indian spinner Sunil Narine leads the list with 769 points and is 28 points ahead of New Zealand’s Trent Boult. Followed by Shakib Al Hasan, Imran Tahir and Mitchell Starc. Off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is the highest ranked India in the 11th spot.

Virat Kohli, Anil Kumble, Greg Chappell, Sourav Ganguly, Board of Control for Cricket in India

Former India Coach Greg Chappell thinks that the success or failure of Kohli and Kumble will depend on the kind of support they get from the stakeholders of Indian cricket including players.Greg Chappell who had astringent tenure as India’s coach from 2005-2007 said writing for The Hindu that, “Kohli’s robust self-belief” and Kumble’s “indomitable spirit” is a heady combination that will serve Indian cricket well.”

Greg Chappell also wrote that, “Kumble will demand nothing less than 100 percent effort, but he will be generous to those who give of their best and fall short on occasions, Virat Kohli is lucky to have a man of Kumble’s undoubted strengths as his ally. It will be a powerful partnership that I expect will serve India well.”

Former India Coach Greg Chappell also said that, “Kumble has been around long enough to know that the captain is the critical component of any cricket team and that the coach’s role is to support the captain to take the load off him to allow for personal preparation time in the lead up to games, but then take a back-seat once the game begins.” During his tenure, Greg Chappell fell foul with Sourav Ganguly. He had also written to Board of Control for Cricket in India that Ganguly was mentally and physically unfit to lead the Indian team. Greg Chappell also accused Sourav Ganguly of negative attitude and for imaginary injuries.

Greg Chappell said about Kohli and Kumble that they will need a lot of support from the stakeholders of Indian Cricket. He said, “It won’t get any easier any time soon for India with the amount of Test cricket that they are committed to in the near future. To overcome this will take a huge commitment from all levels of cricket in India and will need to be supported by the administration.” Anil Kumble will start his new journey as a head coach  of Team India from the upcoming West Indies Tour where India will play 4 Test matches. Virat Kohli will lead the Indian side.

After that IPL, I started listening to my body. I made a lifestyle choice. I wanted to explore a new side of my body to take me to the next level because I never wanted to be average.
