57 applications for the role of Team India’s head coach : BCCI

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has received 57 applications for the role of team India’s head coach. The BCCI release the statement on Sunday which states that, “At the close of the June 10, 2016, the timeline set for receiving applications for the position of the Head Coach of the Indian Cricket Team, BCCI has received a total of 57 applications from coaches within India and overseas.”
“The primary scrutiny of the applications received is now being carried out by the Office of the Honorary Secretary of the BCCI, with regards to the applicants, meeting the set eligibility criteria. After this initial scrutiny, the list of candidates who meet the criteria will be processed for further consideration” it added.
Ravi Shastri, former team director, and Sandeep Patil, the national selection committee head are two of the most notable names amongst the 57 applicants who had applied for this top role. Now, Ajay Shirke, the BCCI secretary, will send a trimmed-down list to the cricket advisory panel which will then shortlist the most suitable candidates.
Other than Shastri and Patil, Vikram Rathour, member of the selection committee, Pravin Amre, Venkatesh Prasad, Balwinder Singh Sandhu, Surendra Bhave and Hrishikesh Kanithkar have also sent in their applications.
Interestingly, Sanjay Bangar, the interim head coach of the Indian team hasn’t applied for the post of the head coach, Although Ravi Shastri has clearly stated that he would like to work with the same support staff who were there during his tenure as a team director.
