Indian Test skipper and the ace batsman Virat Kohli to help the BCCI in selecting the Indian cricket team coach where there is a logjam over the names of Anil Kumble and Ravi Shastri. As per the reports the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has sought help from Virat Kohli.

The committee comprising VVS Laxman, Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar interviewed five candidates in Kolkata and have to now pick up a candidate.

Anil Kumble, Ravi Shastri, Pravin Amre, Lalchand Rajput and Tom Moody were the five candidates that were interviewed by the panel.

Now, the ball is in India’s Test captain (Virat Kohli) court. However, sources have revealed that Virat Kohli has a strong inclination towards Ravi Shastri.

Though the panel – comprising VVS Laxman, Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar – has played with Anil Kumble and has a high respect for his cricketing credentials, on the other hand Ravi Shastri’s tenure as a director of Team India in the last 2 years has been very positive which might work in his favour. The key role of the Test team captain cannot be denied in the decision making process.

NICE TO GET LAST BALL SIX SAYS PLUNKETT

In the first One Day International against Sri Lanka, Liam Plunkett  hit a massive six in the last ball of the England innings to tie the match. After the last ball six, England managed to snatch the victory from the jaws of Sri Lanka. Liam Plunkett said about the last ball six that, “It was nice to get that one out. They bowled well at the death and obviously Woakes and Jos Buttler put us in a great position after a few early wickets.”

Liam Plunkett further went on to say, “We bat all the way down, me and Rashid are 10 and 11, so we’re backing ourselves to take it as deep as possible. I just feel if you’re in at the end, you give yourself the best chance to clear the ropes and lucky enough it was the last ball.”

Liam Plunkett also said about the batting depth of England that, “It shows the depth we’ve got. It’s good for the team isn’t it? You know you can carry on all the way through an innings. If you struggle up top then hopefully the end can get a big score and if not you can carry on from ball one.”

England were 82/6 in 18th over. After that Chris Woakes (95* off 92 balls) and Jos Buttler (93 off 99 balls) put 138 runs stand for 7th wicket and England could manage to stay alive in the game and after that Liam Plunkett played a handy knock of 22* off 11 balls with 2 fours and a massive six. Eventually England managed to tie the match.

Harbhajan Singh doesn’t enjoy playing on doctored wickets

The 103-Test veteran off-spinner Harbhajan Singh who has always raised a question of playing Ranji Trophy on neutral wickets, is now in favour of it. Harbhajan has given the blue print and a series of suggestions to the Board of Control for Cricket in India to improve the domestic cricket.

“Earlier, I was only playing international cricket, and had little idea about the issues in domestic cricket. However, the experience of doing so for the last four-five years has given me a fair idea of what needs to be done to improve it,” Harbhajan told TOI from Jalandhar.

“I’ve given my suggestions in this regard to the concerned people in the Board. I won’t be able to attend the conclave due to personal commitments, but my views will be put forth by our representative,” added the Punjab Ranji skipper.

On taking ten wickets in a game to spin out Tamil Nadu on a rank turner at Dindigul. Bhajji said, “It was perhaps the best venue that I’ve played in domestic cricket. There were around five to six thousand people who turned up to watch that match, and the ground was beautiful, lush green. However, when I saw the wicket before the match, I realised that it was unfit for a first-class game. Any batsman could’ve been hurt on that. The match finished before lunch on the second day. I didn’t enjoy taking wickets in that match at all,”

“It’s a real concern. The game shouldn’t be about ordinary spinners or bowlers taking wickets. It should be about skill, fighting till the end. Domestic cricket has to be about producing champion players, who can do well in any conditions. Let’s make fair wickets which give a chance to everyone. For this reason, I feel that we can have a system where players from the South play in the North Zone, or say a Punjab team plays at various grounds in Gujarat. There’s no point in playing on doctored wickets.” Harbhajan added

Neutral venues may kill the local interest in the tournament, to which Harbhajan said, “Is that more important or is it fine to produce bowlers who’ll struggle to take wickets abroad, or batsmen who don’t know how to construct an innings, because they simply haven’t batted that long.”

Harbhajan also wants the BCCI to use Duke balls instead of SG balls in domestic cricket. “The SG balls go out of shape pretty early, and you’ve to change it frequently. The Duke, as I saw in England, retains its shape and doesn’t need to be changed till the new ball is due” Bhajji suggested.

You can’t ask for a better finish to a very competitive match, nobody was agree to give up so, finally match has been tied.

After winning the toss England decided to bowl first, Lankan openers were started to hitting the ball very well but David Willey has different ideas,  with just hint of swing he forced Gunathilaka to commit a mistake, still there were no effect on the run rate. Willey struck again shown Perera the way to dressing room after excellent catch at point by Roy. Later Woakes, Plunkett, Rashid join the party. Sri Lanka kept on losing wickets in regular interval. Adil Rashid finished his spell very economical 10-0-36-0.

The Lankan skipper Angelo Mathews hold the fort from one end partnership with Prasanna helped Sri Lanka to reach the respectable total of 286/9. Prasanna played a very crucial knock of 59 runs in just 29 balls with the help of 8 FOURS and 4 SIXES, that was the inning which improved Lankan run rate in middle overs.

The chase wasn’t started good for England lost their 4 top order batsman in the score of only 30, Mathews and Lakmal bowled magnificently.  After the end of 18 overs England were 82/6. Totally down and out but thanks to the ruthless innings from Buttler and Woakes 93 and 95* respectively. 138 runs partnership for 7th wicket was excellent and commendable because Sri Lanka have almost won the match in 18 overs. 51 runs partnership in 26 balls for 9th wicket between Woakes and Plunkett was salt on the wound for Lankans, Woakes inning was very well constructed and composed because scoring with strike rate of 103.26 with only 4 boundaries in 95 runs is really excellent work, also  for his heroic inning and all round performance Chris Woakes adjudged Player  of The Match. Lankans were below average as far as the fielding department is concerned. Lankans were below average as far as the fielding department is concerned.

After crushing Zimbabwe by 10 wickets in the 2nd T20I Mahendra Singh Dhoni and co. will look to seal the series in the 3rd and final T20I.  After winning ODI series with 3-0 clean sweep, India were shocked by Zimbabwe in the first T20I match by narrow margin of 2 runs. But India came back strongly in the 2nd T20I and crushed Zimbabwe by 10 wickets. India undoubtedly will be favourite in the 3rd and final T20I but Zimbabwe’s unpredictability can hurt India.

India played the 2nd T20I with their full capability and outplayed Zimbabwe in all three departments of the game and India will keen to carry forward their performance in the final T20I as well. Barinder Sran who had been rested for the 1st T20I bring brought in the 2nd T20I and gave a fantastic performance of 4-0-10-4 and finished with the best figure for an Indian in T20I. Jasprit Bumrah once again impressed with his brilliant performance of 4-0-11-3. Also Yuzvendra Chahal continued his good form in the T20I series as well. Zimbabwean batsman have no clue for the Indian bowlers.

On the other hand, Zimbabwe will be disappointed with their effort as they have been completely outplayed by the visitors in the 2nd T20I. But it is still not over for Zimbabwe as they have a chance to win the series. Zimbabwe will have to lift their performance to win the T20I series. For that to happen, their batsmen will have to take responsibility. Except Elton Chigumbura, No other batsman put their best performance in the batting department. Most of the batsman after getting a good start couldn’t convert it to a big score. In the bowling department also, Zimbabwean bowlers will have to do their best to restrict Indian batters.

India’s left-arm spinner Axar Patel jumped 20 places to a career-best rank of 13 in the latest ICC Rankings for ODI bowlers after a wonderful outing in the recently concluded 3 match ODI series against Zimbabwe.  Jasprit Bumrah and Dhawal Kulkarni also made progress after conclusion of 50-over series against Zimbabwe.

Axar Patel is now just three places behind India’s highest-ranked bowler Ravichandran Ashwin.

West Indian spinner Sunil Narine has returned to number-one position. South Africa’s Imran Tahir has jumped three places to second position. The wrist spinner is the leading wicket-taker in the ongoing Tri-nation series — involving Australia and the West Indies — with 13 wickets to date, including a career-best seven for 45 against the West Indies.

Meanwhile, in the ODI Player Rankings for batsmen, Sri Lanka’s Tillakaratne Dilshan and the Kiwi team-mates Kane Williamson and Martin Guptill have benefitted from Rohit Sharma’s absence from the series against Zimbabwe and Quinton de Kock’s ordinary form to rise up the chart.

Dilshan and Williamson now share fourth position while Guptill is in sixth position following Rohit’s drop to seventh (down by two) and de Kock’s eighth (down by four).

AB de Villiers, whose 200th ODI lasted just six deliveries in Barbados on Sunday, is the number-one ranked batsman. He is followed by India’s Virat Kohli, 79 points behind, while Hashim Amla is third.

Most of the Indian Cricket community are favouring Virat Kohli to take over the captaincy of Indian Cricket Team in all three formats. Former Indian Team director Ravi Shastri also thinks that Virat Kohli is ready to take over the captaincy in all three formats of the game. However, former Australian player Dean Jones doesn’t think that Kohli is ready to take over the captaincy in all three formats.  Dean Jones said in an interview that, “We are pretty quick to push our great players out. After what Dhoni has done for Indian cricket, let him find his own time. I don’t think Virat is in a huge rush to captain everything (format) at the moment. Time will come. Trust me, you will miss Dhoni a lot more in India, when he retires,”.

Dean Jones further went on to say that, “Virat is really in a good part of his life. He looks brilliant with the way he’s playing. He’s happy. He is super fit. He’s just a great example for the youth of India. He looks and presents himself as an athlete. More strength to him. I just love watching him play.”. Dean Jones also lauds Kohli’s batting skills saying that, “I find him refreshing. I love his charisma. I think he’s got personality. He walks into bat and you have no idea what’s going to happen. He’s just really cool. He is polished, now knows how to finish it off. He is the best player in the world probably now for me,”.

Former Australian player Dean Jones mentioned about Shastri’s suggestion over Kohli’s saying captaincy saying that, “I think that will happen soon. Dhoni will end of as one of the greatest players India have ever produced. Honestly, it is no big rush.”
