Indian Test skipper Virat Kohli on Thursday welcomed the new head coach of Team India, saying he was looking forward to work with the legendary Anil Kumble.

Kumble’s appointment put all the speculations and suspense to the rest on who will take over the reins of the side. The former leg-spinner pipped former Team Director Ravi Shastri, current Chairman of Selector Sandeep Patil,  Australians Tom Moody and Stuart Law and many others to clinch the high-profile position following an elaborate selection process headed by a three-member Cricket Advisory Committee comprising Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman.

The ace batsman took to twitter and congratulated Anil Kumble shortly after Kumble was appointed as head coach for a year. He wrote, “Heartiest welcome to @anilkumble1074 Sir. Look forward to your tenure with us. Great things in store for Indian Cricket with you.”

MS Dhoni is happy to have a pool of quicks for Limited Overs Cricket

Mahendra Singh Dhoni is very much pleased with the way the fast bowlers had stepped up in the limited overs series against Zimbabwe. Barinder Sran finished as Man of the Series in the three-match T20 international series between India and Zimbabwe. Sran took six wickets in two matches and bagged the final wicket of the series that handed India a 2-1 series win in the T20I series.

In a post-match presentation, Dhoni admitted that India gained more in the T20I series than the ODIs which India won 3-0 without facing any challenge against the incompetent Zimbabwe side. Sran 10 wickets in 5 games vs Zimbabwe was well supported by young Jasprit Bumrah and Dhawal Kulkarni who finished with 14 and 8 wickets respectively in 5 matches.

“Fast bowling is something you need a good pool for. Games like these will help them mature, and the fact that we lost the first T20I helped us get more out of the series.” Dhoni said.

“We now have a pool of fast bowlers… we can proudly say that we have 10-12 bowlers for limited overs cricket who can slowly graduate to the Test level,” Dhoni added.

Sran bowled a nervy final over at the Harare Sports Club. Zimbabwe needed 21 in the last six balls and Sran was smashed for a six and a four by Timysen Maruma to push India into a corner, then Sran bowled a couple of widish yorker and two dot balls put the Zimbabweans under pressure. Given their lack of experience, eight runs from two balls was always going to be tough but Elton Chigumbura hit the penultimate delivery for four and changed the equation to 4 from one ball.

Barinder Sran had the last laugh as Chigumbura hit a low full-toss straight to cover. “To get 21 runs in the last over was always going to be difficult. I had the confidence to defend it. But after I got hit, I changed my plan twice and that helped.” Sran said.

Champions Trophy 2017 may turn out to be the last ever

ICC, International Cricket Council, ICC Champions Trophy, Champions Trophy, CT, England, India, Australia, Pakistan, New Zealand, South Africa, West Indies, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Mini World Cup, Cricket

The International Cricket Council may scrap the Champions Trophy from it’s calendar after the 2017 or 2021 edition as per the reports on ESPNcricinfo. The tournament was to be terminated in 2013 itself but since the inaugural ICC Test championship couldn’t take place, ICC decided to stage another one in 2017 in England.

If the new One-Day International (ODI) League does occur in 2019, then next year’s tournament in England could be the last time we see teams fighting it out for the prestigious ‘Mini World Cup’. ICC is not in favour of having three competitions for the 50-over format, therefore the 2021 edition in India might not take place. If such a situation arise then India might get to host the 2022 or the 2024 World Twenty20 since the recommendation to stage the competition every two years once is likely to be approved at the ICC Annual Conference in Edinburgh.

The ICC Champions Trophy also termed as ‘Mini World Cup’ is a very popular tournament among the fans and in the Cricketing circles, there is a very rich history behind the tournament. The tournament was started way back in 1998, formerly it was known as ICC Knockout Trophy. Next year’s Champions Trophy is scheduled to be played in England, Bangladesh will be playing in the tournament at the expense of West Indies. India are currently the defending champions after they beat hosts England in the final in 2013.

Anushka Sharma hits back at trolls for abuse over Virat Kohli

Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma again hits out at the social media trolls after she received abusive messages over her reported on-off relationship with Indian Test cricket captain Virat Kohli.

“It’s one thing to be abused for a film I did or to be trolled if I did something wrong. But to be abused for something I had no association with? That was hurtful,” she said.

“I have been trolled more than many of my peers. At the beginning I didn’t know how to react but now I don’t care,” Anushka further added.

Earlier this year the star Indian batsman took to various social media platforms to stop attacking Anushka Sharma, saying it was shameful to blame her for his performances.

After his match winning 82* runs against Australia in the ICC world T20 2016, Kohli wrote on Instagram: Shame on blaming and making fun of her (Anushka) when she has no control over what I do with my sport. If anything she has only motivated and given me more positivity.”

Virat followed it up with a similar message on Twitter asking for people to have some “compassion”.

I WAS LEFT SPEECHLESS BY MAXWELL’S MATCH WINNING INNING SAYS MITCHELL MARSH

After the match winning inning in the  league match at Kensington Oval, Barbados against West Indies, Australian all rounder Mitchell Marsh said that he was left ‘speechless’ by Maxwell’s match winning effort against West Indies. Maxwell played an explosive knock of unbeaten 46 runs of 26 balls with 5 fours and 2 sixes which cruise Australia into the Tri-Series Final. Maxwell had come back  in the Australia’s Playing Eleven for the final league match and he made this opportunity count and played a brilliant knock.

Mitchell Marsh said after the match winning effort of Maxwell that, “I was literally speechless at the other end watching an innings like that,”. He further went on to say that, “Maxi’s obviously had a lot of doubts and hasn’t been in the greatest of form, but an innings like that  really shows why he’s one of the first picked in this side. He’s just so dangerous and he can win us games like that in a few overs. I’m really wrapped for him”.

Mitchell Marsh also said that , “He actually told me we would just take (Narine) for ones and next minute he’s playing a reverse sweep for six. I absolutely loved it. Maxi’s a free spirit, you’ve just got to let him go and do what he does. And when it comes off like that, it’s unbelievable to watch,”.

Getting dropped from the team motivated me to train harder: Glenn Maxwell

The swashbuckling Australian batsman Glenn Maxwell confessed that he has been hurt when dropped from the playing XI for two games during the ongoing Tri-nation One-Day International series in West Indies. On Tuesday against the West Indies Maxwell made his way to back in form with a blistering 46* off just 26 deliveries to guide Australia home by 6 wickets.

“You feel so ingrained in that side for such a long time, you feel like you need to be there. It hurt at the time but it probably motivated me to train a bit harder and just reassess where I needed to get better. Anyone who’s dropped knows exactly what they have to do. They just have to work harder and train harder. I felt like I trained really well over the last week or so and did everything I could to get myself back on that team list.” said Maxwell

Maxwell was there in the middle when Australia chased down the stiff target of 283 with 8 balls to spare and at the end to be able to remain not out and bring his team over the line is what satisfied Maxwell the most.

“Being not out was probably the key thing and something the Australian cricket team has probably wanted more of me over the last couple of years. I’ve been working as hard as I can in the nets to make sure I’ve been clinical, it’s not just clearing the fence. It’s defence, good technical play. To finish it with an over to go was quite a clinical ending.”

“I had a little bit of luck. I played and missed once or twice. That’s all you need … it’s nice to make a mistake and get away with it. Everything just felt really clear out there.”
