DAY NIGHT TESTS CRICKET ARE THE FUTURE  OF CRICKET THINKS RICHARD HADLEE

After a successful day night test match between Australia vs New Zealand at the Adelaide Oval last year, many teams have agreed to play day night test match. New Zealand’s legendary cricketer Richard Hadlee thinks that the day night tests cricket are the future of cricket.

In an interview, Richard Hadlee said,” Day-night cricket is the future of the game. I think, what we saw at the Adelaide Oval when New Zealand took on Australia, was a wonderful spectacle. Clearly it attracted the crowds and is great for television, I think.” Richard Hadlee said about the recent pink ball test match between Australia vs New Zealand that,” “We saw how the pink ball worked visually well on television. It performed better for players than they expected, because there was some controversy and lack of confidence from players whether actually the pink ball will last and whether it could be seen.”

Richard Hadlee further went on to say about the pink ball test match between Australia vs New Zealand that, ”We saw an extra-ordinary Test match. Even if that was over in three days, it was a (good) contest between bat and ball. And that’s what you wanted. It was a wonderful spectacle.”

Richard Hadlee also shared his thoughts about the due factor which may come into play during the day night Tests, ”The only problem in some areas around the world is the dew factor and that the ball could be affected. That is going to be a disadvantage, particularly to the fielding team, and something needs to be worked through.” The upcoming day night test matches is scheduled to be played between South Africa and Australia at the same venue (Adelaide Oval) which hosted the inaugural day night Test last year, and if reports are to be believed then India may also end up by playing their maiden day night Test against the Kiwis later this year at the Eden Gardens Kolkata.

As it is said by the Cricket Pundits and Purists that Test Cricket is the ultimate because it tests your patience, temperament, character, mental strength, physical fitness and all the attributes of the game to the core, and if a Cricketer comes out with flying colours after passing all the challenges of Test Cricket, then he/she considered as the bona fide great of the game. Although Bairstow is no where near the word ‘Great’ at the moment but he certainly has proved his worth in the longest and most testing format of Cricket with his consistent batting as well as with his gloves work and that is what must have propelled the English selector’s to pick him up in the ODI squad for the 5 match ODI series against Sri Lanka.

After a good county season Bairstow was picked for the England tour of South Africa earlier this year, He was excellent throughout the tour, he has played innings like 41,79,150*,30*,45 and kept very well behind the wicket, from there he started to look confident.

Although Bairstow couldn’t find a place for himself in England’s limited over squad (ODIs & T20s) but he was ready to prove his mettle once again as the English summer started with a 3 match Test series against the Sri Lankans. In the very first Test at Headingley, Bairstow batted outstandingly under pressure while the whole English batting line up including the big guns (Joe Root and Alastair Cook) were struggling to cop up against the disciplined Lankan attack, he was the lone warrior and single handedly led the charge for England by forming partnerships with the tail-enders as he scored his second century (140) in Test Cricket and took 9 catches behind the wicket, later on Sri Lanka could not resist the Anderson-Broad burst.

In the second Test at Chester Le-Street he played a sensible knock of 48 runs, his partnership of 70 runs with Moeen Ali for the 6th wicket in the first innings played a crucial part in the final outcome of the match. He also took 7 catches behind the wicket, his 19 catches is a record for an English wicket keeper in a 3 match Test series.

In the third Test at Lord’s again his unbeaten 167 was the key in determining the outcome of the match, though he was given a few chances that is part and parcel of the game. During his second 150+ score in Test Cricket Bairstow played some gorgeous strokes throughout the inning. His well constructed 167 off 251 balls was consist of 18 boundaries. In a rain curtailed match England perhaps declared too late to win the match. In last 11 innings in Test Cricket Bairstow has scored 746 runs  with only 1 Duck and 3 not out innings. He was very rightly adjudged Man of The Series for his two well composed centuries in the series and also for his credentials behind the wicket though he did spill a few catches.

The coach Trevor Bayliss has a different thought about him, maybe he can picked as a specialist batsman in the squad for the upcoming Pakistan Test series. Wicket keeping responsibility can be shared with Ben Foakes, the young Surrey wicketkeeper, as one man under consideration. Trevor said, “Bairstow was hitting the ball very well and I haven’t seen any other English player to do so.”

ZIMBABWE vs INDIA 3rd ODI REVIEW :- INDIA COMPLETED THE HAT-TRICK OF WHITE-WASH IN ZIMBABWE

ZIMBABWE vs INDIA 3rd ODI REVIEW :- INDIA COMPLETED THE HAT-TRICK OF WHITE-WASH IN ZIMBABWE

Just Like the first two ODIs in the series, India thoroughly dominated the third and final ODI of series against Zimbabwe in Harare Sports Club, Harare. The story of the third ODI was very similar to first two ODIs except toss which went this time in the favour of Zimbabwe. With this series win India completed the hat-trick of white-wash in One day International Cricket versus Zimbabwe in Zimbabwe and also MS Dhoni registered his first series victory as an ODI captain since October 2014.

After winning his first toss in the series, Zimbabwean captain Graeme Cremer opted to bat first on a bright and sunny day at Harare. Surprisingly, Zimbabwe had a slow but decent start as they lost only one wicket in the first 20 overs. Vusi Sibanda who scored a half century in the previous match and Chamu Chibhabha were looking good out there in the middle. Although Sibanda has been dropped by Yuzvendra Chahal in the 7th over, but Chahal did make it up for it later on by taking his wicket which  trigger the collapse in the Zimbabwean innings as they lost 4 wickets in 4 balls and fell down like a deck of cards. Only three batsmen from Zimbabwe Chibhabha (27), Sibanda (38) and a number 9 batsman Madziva (10*) could reach the double figure mark. Jaspreet Bumrah bettered his career best figure in ODIs (9.5-2-28-4) to (10-1-22-4) in the space of 6 days. Eventually Zimbabwe got bowled out on 123 runs in 42.2 overs.

India started their run chase with a different opening pair from the first two ODIs. Debutant Faiz Fazal who got the chance to play in place of Karun Nair opened the inning with KL Rahul for India. Initially he took some time but after that he showed his class and took on the Zimbabwean bowlers and scored an unbeaten 55 off 61 in his debut ODI match. Both the openers of India rotated the strike and complimented each other very well. KL Rahul also scored an unbeaten half century (63* off 70) and was adjudged Player Of the Series for his 196 runs in the series. Ultimately India won the third and final ODI comfortably by 10 wickets. Jaspreet Bumrah was adjudged Man Of The Match for his outstanding spell of bowling (10-1-22-4), this was Bumrah’s second 4-for in the last 3 matches.

Brief scores:

Zimbabwe 123 all out in 42.2 overs ( Vusi Sibanda 38 off 71 balls, Chamu Chibhabha 27 off 66 balls; Jasprit Bumrah 4/22, Yuzvendra Chahal 2/25)

India 126/0 in 21.5 overs (KL Rahul 63* off 70 balls, Faiz Fazal 55* off 61 balls)

Virat Kohli, Mohammad Amir, Asia Cup, ICC World T20, Board of Control for Cricket in India, Pakistan Cricket Board, Cricket, India, Pakistan, India vs Pakistan, Pakistan vs India, INDvsPAK, PAKvsIND

Pakistan Left-arm sensation Mohammad Amir in an interview to Times of India on Tuesday piled on praise for India’s Master Batsman Virat Kohli.

The talented left arm pacer, who made a cracking comeback to international cricket against India in Asia Cup 2016, has said that India’s ace batsman Virat Kohli currently is the best batsman in  world cricket.

Mohammad Amir recalled Kohli’s knock against Pakistan at the Asia Cup earlier this year when Amir ripped India’s top order apart at the start of the innings but the right-handed batsman came to the rescue and took the match away from Pakistan.

“Kohli certainly is the best (batsman) in the world, and is having a great run at the moment. The Asia Cup encounter is a case in point,” said Amir.

“The wicket wasn’t the easiest to bat on, and India were in a spot of bother when Kohli walked in. He was able to negotiate those tough times and come out unscathed.”

“That’s the hallmark of big players like Kohli. They dig in deep, weather out those rough passages of play and ensure they take their side home,” Amir added.

VIRAT KOHLI PERFORMS BETTER THAN SACHIN TENDULKAR UNDER PRESSURE SITUATIONS: IMRAN KHAN

Pakistan’s legendary fast bowler and the World Cup winning captain Imran Khan on Tuesday rated India’s ace batsman Virat Kohli as one of the best in the world, even better than his compatriot Sachin Tendulkar when it comes to performing on the difficult moments.

As per Imran Khan, Kohli stands among the ranks of Viv Richards, Brian Lara and Sachin Tendulkar — all three batsmen known to have frustrated bowlers in their respective eras.

“Cricket has had eras. In the eighties, it was Viv Richards, and then you had Brian Lara and Sachin Tendulkar who stood out. Virat Kohli is one of the most complete players I’ve seen. He’s so versatile; he plays on both feet, and on all sides of the field,’’ said the cricketer-turned-politician in an interview to Hindustan Times.

One of the most famous Kolhi innings was when he drove India to victory against Pakistan in the World T20 group stage earlier this year at Eden Garden’s. Imran Khan was present there in the stands during the high-voltage encounter.

“It was very painful watching Pakistan lose, but Kohli played a very good game. I look at batsmen from a bowler’s point of view and I think of how to get them out.

“Just look at how Kohli plays in difficult situations. He’s better than anyone. I’d say he’s the best internationally, today. You can back him to play any match,” said Khan.

The former all-rounder also rated Kohli’s temperament better than that of his compatriot Sachin Tendulkar.

“Apart from his talent and technique, he has a very good temperament. His temperament is better than Sachin’s. Kohli performs at the most difficult of opportunities, which Sachin sometimes wasn’t able to.” added Khan.

BCCI secretary Ajay Shirke said on Tuesday that the applications received for the Indian cricket team’s head coach’s post would be trimmed before the short-listed names would be called for interviews. Three days ago BCCI issued an statement which stated that there are as many as 57 applicants who have applied for this coveted and high-profile job.

Shirke told the reporters in Mumbai, “The first step is to make the list from 57 to the eligible and then it will go for further scrutiny and then the most eligible candidates will go through a process of interviews, presentations. All of this will be done and the best candidate will be finalised.”

The Board of Control for Cricket in India had invited applications for the post and some high-profile names such as former captain and the legendary leg spinner Anil Kumble, former team director Ravi Shastri and current selection panel chief Sandeep Patil are among the 57 who have applied for this prestigious post.

Shirke was non committal on when the new full-time head coach for the team would be finalised. Although he did give a hint that the head coach will likely to be named on 24th June when the working committee of the Board of Cricket Council of India (BCCI) is to meet in Dharamsala.

“There was a criteria announced, so as per the criteria whoever will be eligible, that will be announced. There is no deadline as such, the process has to be completed and as soon as the process is completed, the final selections will be announced,” he quipped.

“All I can say is that there are meritorious foreigners and meritorious Indians (who have sought the job),” he added.

Shirke said that all Test match staging associations have been asked to send in suggestions to the BCCI for attracting more spectators for the most traditional form of the game which would be deliberated on June 24 at the Board’s Working Committee meeting in Dharamsala.

After taking an unassailable lead of 2-0, India are eyeing to win the series with 3-0. After the outstanding performance by the bowlers and batters as well, India could go through some changes in the playing eleven. On the other side, Zimbabwe, who have proved no match even for  a second string Indian Team would play the third and final One Day International for pride and for emotion of their fans. A win in the third One Day International will give India a third successive clean sweep against Zimbabwe.

According to Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s statement, some players from the first two ODIs can be rested. Lokesh Rahul who  already has hit a ton in the first match can be rested along with Ambati  Rayudu. Both of them got opportunity to bat for long time and uncapped Faiz Fazal can replace him in the final ODI.  In the bowling department, either Barinder Sran, Jaspreet Bumrah or Dhawal Kulkarni can be rested and Jaidev Unadkat can get a chance to play in the third ODI. Yuzvendra Chahal who got the chance to play in the first two ODIs and impressed everyone with his leg spin can rested and Jayant Yadav can get a chance to play in the third ODI.

The home team have been outplayed in all three departments so far. The batters have been failed to apply themselves against the all-round Indian Bowling attack. Although Vusi Sibanda showed some resilience for the visitors with 53 off 69 balls in the second ODI but that was only the highlights of Zimbabwean innings. Also Zimbabwean captain would be hoping for some luck with the coin, so that they can get a chance to field first in the chilly and overcast condition in Harare Sports Club, Harare.

VIRAT KOHLI SWEATING IT OUT TO BECOME THE BEST ATHLETE IN THE WORLD REVEALS HIS TRAINER

VIRAT KOHLI SWEATING IT OUT TO BECOME THE BEST ATHLETE IN THE WORLD REVEALS HIS TRAINER

Virat Kohli, Shanker Basu, Fitness, Board of control for cricket in India, Royal Challengers Banglore

Virat Kohli is without a shadow of doubt one of the fittest cricketer going around in the world today but that is not good enough for India’s champion batsman as he wants to become the best athlete in the world, reveals India and RCB fitness coach Shanker Basu.

“Virat has decided to become the best athlete in the world and sky is the limit. There a lot of role models ahead of him in terms of sheer athletic abilities and he will never shy away from competition. He will grab it with both hands.” Basu told ‘bcci.tv’.

Kohli has worked immensely on his fitness, especially strength, and the results of that are quite visible. He now hits sixes with as much ease as he pierces the field for boundaries. Shanker Basu, who has worked with Kohli at RCB and in the national team, feels the supremely fit batsman is set to raise the bar.

“A lot of athletes will say that they are very lucky to find a coach, but I will instead say that Virat Kohli is an exceptional person, so I was very lucky to have an athlete like him. My association with him dates back to eight years through IPL.” Basu said.

He also gave an insight to how Kohli approaches his fitness, “Virat will never challenge you once he is convinced about your methods. I found an athlete who was ready to go through the grind and work hard consistently whenever the need arose. He is very good with his nutrition plans and discipline factors.”

“He has also made a lot of changes in his lifestyle. Kudos to him. I was just a tool. I only introduced him to the right kind of strength work which was already building thanks to my predecessors. When I joined the Indian team full time, I was able to spend more quality time on a daily basis. That probably was the icing on the cake as about 90 per cent of the work was done by him and I just provided the finishing touch.” said Basu.

Basu revealed how Kohli kept raising the fitness bar ever since they started working together for RCB.

“Kohli once said that he has to tweak his game as he cannot hit sixes like others. This IPL, he hit 38 sixes which is the most this season and 15 more than his last season’s tally. There is a drastic improvement in his power game now.

“In September we got an assessment of his muscle mass. At the end of the season, we wanted to see if there was a change and what we noticed was his muscle mass had increased dramatically. In the last six months, he has put a lot of time in developing his strength, mass and power,” he said.

ZIMBABWE vs INDIA 2nd ODI REVIEW :- INDIA CLINCHED THE SERIES WITH A THUMPING VICTORY

India's Tour Of Zimbabwe 2016, Zimbabwe Cricket, Board of Control for Cricket in India, Cremer, Dhoni, Zimbabwe vs India, ZIMvsIND, ODI, One Day Cricket, Cremer, Dhoni, Chibhabha, Masakadza, chigambura, Panday, Nair, Dhoni, Tripano, Chatara, Williams, Bumrah, Kulkarni, Chahal, Ntini, Bangar

Just like the first match, India with their second string team once again dominated the match against the depleted Zimbabwe side and with that also clinched the series with one match to spare. With this series win MS Dhoni also managed to break his ODI series losing streak since October 2014

After winning the toss, the Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni invited the home team to bat first in the very cold and overcast conditions of Harare, Zimbabwe just like the first match struggled from the very beginning of the match. Zimbabwean openers Chamu Chibhabha and Hamilton Masakadza were clueless against the Indian new ball duo of Barinder Sran and Dhawal Kulkarni. Zimbabwe lost their first wicket very early as Barinder Sran got rid of Hamilton Masakadza. Sran, in his very next over got a bit of luck as Peter Moor was given Leg Before Wicket (LBW) by umpire (Ian Gould) which was actually going down leg. On the other side, Chamu Chibhabha who is looking good with the bat could not contribute further to his side as Dhawal Kulkarni trapped him in front when he was 21. After  the early damage being done, Sikandar Raza and Vusi Sibanda added 67 runs for the 4th wicket and this was turning out to be a good partnership as Zimbabwe were looking good to post the total of above 240 on the board. But suddenly Zimbabwe fell down from 106/3 to 126 all out like pack of cards. Sikandar Raza tried to heave Yuzvendra Chahal for a six could only find Kedar Jadhav at deep mid on and from where the collapse began. Soon after, Chahal got rid of Vusi Sibanda who was trying to play against the spin. Sean Williams couldn’t bat as he injured his finger just after the toss and went for the scan. So India had to take 9 wickets instead of 10 which they successfully did in 34.3 overs. After this horrible batting performance in the second successive match, Zimbabwe could only manage to post 126 runs on the board.

India began their chase with a solid start as both the openers added 58 runs for the 1st wicket. Century scorer in the first match KL Rahul, chopped on a delivery from Chibhabha when he was on 33. After KL Rahul got out, Ambati Rayudu took the responsibility and added 67 runs for the second wicket with Karun Nair and almost seal the deal for India but just before the winning runs to be hit, Zimbabwe delayed the inevitable for a bit as Karun Nair was trapped in front of the wicket by Sikandar Raza. But it was too little too late for Zimbabwe as India had almost won the match. After Karun Nair got out, Manish Pandey came to the crease for the first time in this series and completed the formality with a boundary through the covers. India won the match comfortably by 8 wickets. Yuzvendra Chahal was adjudged Man Of The Match for his outstanding spell of (6-2-25-3).

Brief Scores: Zimbabwe: 126 all out in 34.3 overs (Vusi Sibanda 53 off 69 balls; Yuzvendra Chahal 3/25) lost to India: 129/2 from 26.5 overs (Ambati Rayudu 41* off 44 balls, Karun Nair 39 off 68 balls, Chamu Chibhabha 1/31) by 8 wickets.
