In the 5th match of Tri-Nation Series , West Indies’s all round performance in the match overshadowed the brilliant knock of Khawaja (98 off 123 balls) and Steve Smith (74 off 95 balls). Australia were brilliant with the bat till the 30th over of their innings and were looking towards a huge total as Smith and Khawaja were well set and about to up the ante after their 170 runs stand for the second wicket, but after the dismissal of Steve Smith, Australia lost the plot somewhere and not to demean the Windies bowling effort as they did exceedingly well to restrict them on 265/7.

After winning the toss, the home captain Jason Holder invited Australia to bat first. After putting into bat first, In the absence of  David Warner (who has been ruled out of Tri-Series due to fractured left Index finger), Usman Khawaja and Finch were the new opening pair for Australia. In the very first over, Australia lost their first wicket as Jason Holder got rid of the in form Aaron Finch on duck. That’s not the kind of start Aussies would have expected. For the first time in this series, Steve Smith came to his customary number 3 position to join Usman Khawaja. At the start both of them played cautiously and with responsibility but after got their eyes in they started to take chances as both of them scored awell compiled half-ton  and put on 170 runs stand for the 2nd wicket. When these two were at the crease, Australia were well on top but after losing Smith in the 35th over of the match, Australia suddenly lost their momentum, Khawaja played a tad slow (98 off 123) while nearing his ton, no other batsman except Bailey (55 off 56 balls) contributed much to the cause. After 50 overs, Australia put on 265 runs on the board with the loss of 7 wickets.

West Indies started their chase in an aggressive mode as both of the openers (Charles and Fletcher) decided to take on the Aussie bowler’s from the word go. The pair put on 74 runs for the first wicket, Australia got their first wicket  in the 10th over when Andre Fletcher misjudged the slower James Faulkner delivery. Australia needed the wicket in quick succession, so Smith brought in his trump card of the series (Adam Zampa) into the attack and in no Zampa proved his worth. Adam Zampa got rid of the dangerous Johnson Charles in his very first over. After the dismissal of Johnson Charles, Marlon Samuels, the most experienced batsman in this West Indies side came into the crease. West Indies were in need of a clutch knock and the most experienced batsman in the side did provide it. Samuels scored 92 runs off 87 balls with 8 fours and 4 maximum and unfortunately fell just 8 runs short of his 10th One Day International hundred. Eventually West Indies won the match by 4 wickets and as expected, Marlon Samuels was adjudged Man Of The Match.

Brief Scores :-

Australia 265/7 in 50 overs (Usman Khawaja 98 off 123 balls, Steven Smith 74 off 95 balls, George Bailey 55 off 56 balls; Kieron Pollard 2/32) lost to West Indies 266/6 in 45.4 overs (Marlon Samuels 92 off 87 balls, Johnson Charles 48 off 38 balls; Adam Zampa 2/60) by 4 wickets.

David Warner has been ruled out of the remainder of the ongoing Triangular One-Day International (ODI) series in the West Indies due to a broken left Index finger, which he suffered while fielding during the match against South Africa. Although, Australian skipper Steve Smith believes his deputy David Warner should be fit and fine for the first Test against Sri Lanka at the end of July.

Speaking to cricket.com.au. Smith said, “I think he is out for the Tri-series so the most important thing from my aspect is that he is right for the Test series (in Sri Lanka). I think that’s about six weeks away and the medical staff and Dave are confident he will be fine for that first Test match.”

Smith further said, “It’s tough missing guys like Dave. He’s in the form of his life and batting beautifully and he will be a big loss for us. He has played beautifully at the top of the order on some difficult batting wickets. They have been quite slow so far throughout the series.”

Warner, who recently led the Sunrisers Hyderabad to their maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) crown, said this break will provide him some space and will make sure he spend some quality time with his family.

“It’s obviously disappointing to be sidelined given the form I’ve been in, (but this) will give me the chance to freshen up and spend some quality time with my family after an intense period of action.” Warner said in a statement.

Talking to Indian Express, the leg spinner said, “Before I met him (Dhoni), there was a fear about how he will be. But he’s really simple. You can ask him anything. Even on the ground I never felt like he was a captain. I felt like dealing with a friend.”

CHAHAL has impressed everyone in this series with his bowling. In the 2 ODIs that he has played so far in this series, has taken 4 wickets and is quite economical too. In the second ODI it was his spell (6-2-25-3) in the middle overs that made all the difference, he was the one who broke the 67 runs partnership between CHIBHABA and SIKANDAR RAZA. Later on he was adjudged Man of the Match for his brilliant spell.

THE IDEAL START – BATSMEN WHO SCORED TONS ON ODI DEBUT

THE IDEAL START – BATSMEN WHO SCORED TONS ON ODI DEBUT

Stylish Indian batsman Lokesh Rahul created history by becoming the first ever Indian batsman to hit a century on ODI debut. RAHUL reached this feat with a maximum over long on in the first ODI of the series against Zimbabwe. He finished up on exactly 100 from 115 balls as India beat Zimbabwe by nine wickets. With this herculean effort with the bat KL Rahul became the first Indian and 11th overall batsman to achieve this feat in the debut ODI match. CricBol take a look at the full list of batsmen who got their before KL Rahul.

(1) Dennis Amiss: The Englishman was the first International batsman to achieve this rare feat. It was the second one day International ever where England were taking on Australia at Manchester on August 24, 1972. Chasing Australia’s total of 222, the England opening batsman Dennis Amiss was in full flow as he constructed a brilliant 103 from 134 balls. Amiss hit 9 fours during his stay at the crease. England went on to win the match by six wickets.

(2) Desmond Haynes: After Amiss debut ton, one day cricket had to wait nearly six years to get their second batsman who scores a century on debut. It was none other than the legendary West Indian opening batsman Desmond Haynes, who hit 148 from 136 balls against Australia at St. John’s on February 22, 1978. With the help of Hayne’s brisk ton, West Indies posted a mammoth total of 313 on the board and won the match by 44 runs.

(3) Andy Flower: The whole of 1980’s went without any batsman hitting a ton on ODI debut, The jinx was broken in the 1990s, when Flower hit an unbeaten 115 for Zimbabwe against Sri Lanka at New Plymouth on February 23, 1992. Flower hit eight fours and a six in his 152-ball knock. Sri Lanka won the match though by 3 wickets while chasing a target of 313.

(4) Saleem Elahi: In the absence of Saeed Anwar,  the talented Pakistani batsman Saleem Elahi made an unbeaten 102 from 133 balls, with 7 fours and a six against Sri Lanka at Gujranwala on September 29, 1995. Thanks to Elahi’s brilliance, Pakistan made the mockery of Sri Lanka’s total of 233 and won the match emphatically by 9 wickets

(5) Martin Guptill: After a 14-year gap, the current Kiwi opener became the fifth batsman to hit a debut hundred in ODIs. He smashed an unbeaten 122 from 135 balls with 8 fours and 2 sixes against West Indies at Auckland on January 10, 2009. The match was not possible as the match was rained out.

(6) Colin Ingram: The left-handed Proteas batsman hit 124 from 126 balls, with 8 fours and 2 sixes against Zimbabwe at Bloemfontein on October 15, 2010. Thanks to his ton, South Africa posted a massive 351 on the board, and went on to win by 64 runs.

(7) Rob Nicol: The Kiwi batsman scored an unbeaten 108 from 131 balls against Zimbabwe at Harare on October 20, 2011. Nicol hit 11 fours during his stay at the crease. Chasing 232, New Zealand went onto win the match comfortably by 9-wickets.

(8) Phil Hughes: The late Australian is also finds himself among the rare band of batsmen who has a ton on ODI debut. Hughes made 112 from 129 balls with 14 fours against Sri Lanka at Melbourne on January 11, 2013. Australia won the match by a massive margin of 107 runs.

(9) Michael Lumb: The powerful left handed England batsman who was recently in another record-breaking stand in the ongoing Royal London ODI cup, made 106 from 117 balls with 7 fours and 2 sixes against West Indies at North Stand on February 28, 2014. Despite Lumb’s fine effort with the bat, England could not chase down 270.

(10) Mark Chapman: The Hong Kong batsman who is very little known in the Cricketing fraternity blasted 124 not out from 116 balls with 11 fours and 2 sixes against UAE at Dubai on November 16, 2015. Thanks to Chapman’s efforts, Hong Kong set the target of 299 for UAE batsmen and ended up winning the match comprehensively by 89 runs.

ZIMBABWE VS INDIA 2ND ODI PREVIEW : INDIA WILL LOOK TO CLINCH THE SERIES –

ZIMBABWE VS INDIA 2nd ODI PREVIEW : INDIA WILL LOOK TO CLINCH THE SERIES

India's Tour Of Zimbabwe 2016, Zimbabwe Cricket, Board of Control for Cricket in India, Cremer, Dhoni, Zimbabwe vs India, ZIMvsIND, ODI, One Day Cricket, Cremer, Dhoni, Chibhabha, Masakadza, chigambura, Panday, Nair, Dhoni, Tripano, Chatara, Williams, Bumrah, Kulkarni, Chahal, Ntini, Bangar

After the comprehensive victory against Zimbabwe in the first match of 3 match ODI Series, Mahendra Singh Dhoni and company will be looking forward to seal the trophy in the second One Day Internationals itself at the Harare Sports Club, Harare, tomorrow. The history maker from India KL Rahul, who has already scored a brilliant ton in his ODI debut would want to carry his form in the second match also. He has became the first cricketer ever to score a ton in first inning as an opener in both ODIs and Tests. On the other side, Zimbabwe need to improve their batting to stay alive in the series.

India outplayed Zimbabwe in all the three departments of the match and Mahendra Singh Dhoni and co. will look to continue this momentum in the 2nd ODI also. In the first match of the series, Ambati Rayudu also played a brilliant knock of unbeaten 62 off 120 balls and with KL Rahul, he added a record 162 runs stand for the second wicket. This will be a moral boosting inning for Rayudu after being dropped from the team against South Africa series last year. In 2013 and 2015 India have registered back to back white-wash against the same side in their own den with 5-0 and 3-0 respectively with the second string team, this time around too MS Dhoni and troops is all set to replicate the same feat. Although, many senior players have been rested for this series but this young Indian side don’t seem to be in any kind of pressure in their absence as they are playing with lots of flair and enjoying each other’s company. In the bowling department too, Indian bowlers are doing a great job. If Jaspreet Bumrah registered his career best figure in One Day International of 9.5-2-28-4, Dhawal Kulkarni and Barinder Sran also took 2 wickets each. In the spin department, Yuzvendra Chahal and Axar Patel were also prove their worth with the ball. Both of them took a wicket and also they were very economical in their full quota of 10 overs.

On the other hand, Zimbabwe looked very ordinary in the first match of the series. Although Zimbabwe have lots of quality batsmen and bowlers in their armoury but still they were too dependent on Elton Chigumbura and Tendai Chatara to do the bulk of the job. Even Elton Chigumbura, who is the most experienced player and one of the best batsman of this Zimbabwe side could not do much under pressure against some brilliant all-round Indian bowling performance as the Zimbabwe team could only manger to post 168 runs on the board, Captain Cremer will be expecting something off-note from Chigumbura going into the second ODI. Apart from this, Masakadza, Sikandar Raza, Ervine etc will also have to take responsibility if Zimbabwe have to stay alive in the series or win the series. In bowling department, Graeme Cremer (74 wickets), who is the 2nd highest wicket taker in this Zimbabwe side after Elton Chigumbura (101 wickets) are not looking in great form. Also Sikandar Raza and Sean Williams will have to find a way to stop this Indian Side.

Mohammad Amir, who has been granted visa for Pakistan’s tour to England, has been told to be mentally strong as England’s hostile crowd might comment on his involvement in the 2010 spot-fixing saga. Pakistan Cricketer Board (PCB) top officials have told the tainted left arm pacer (Mohammad Amir) to behave well on the tour to England and follow each and every instruction of the team management, anti-corruption code and the security manager.

PCB chairman Shahryar Khan along with Najam Sethi and chief operating officer Subhan Ahmad met the youngster in Lahore. During the meeting Amir was told in clear terms that he will have to follow each instruction given to him by the team management, anti-corruption unit and security manager in England and totally avoid the media unless permitted by the manager.

“Amir was reportedly being told that he should be mentally prepared and be ready to face any inappropriate situations during the tour of England as no one could control the behaviour of crowds or bystanders and he will have to show patience, maturity and tolerance to avoid any sorts of problem.”

Amir along with his team-mates Salman Butt and Muhammad Asif were found guilty of spot-fixing when Pakistan toured England last time in 2010 and they also served varying jail time in UK as a punishment.

The official said that Amir was called to the board offices also because there were indications that some players were not happy with Amir’s attitude during the boot camp in Kakul and in the camp held in Lahore, for the preparation of England tour. Amir has now been told that, “he also needs to take the initiative to make his teammates comfortable and ensure that the dressing room atmosphere is not spoilt on the tour because of his presence.”
