K L Rahul primarily a Test Batsman, but after playing some outstanding knocks in the recently concluded IPL for Royal Challengers Bangalore, he changed the perception of being a Test Batsman only. His performance in IPL 2016 was brilliant to say the least. In the 12 innings that he played for RCB, he scored 397 runs at an average and strike-rate of 44.11 and 146.49 respectively, and by virtue of it he was selected in the national team for the upcoming Zimbabwe tour. He credits his improvement in limited over games to his Royal Challengers Bangalore team mates AB de Villiers and skipper Virat Kohli.

He said in the press confrence before leaving for Zimbabwe, “I spent time with Virat (Kohli) and AB (de Villiers) and asked them questions about what they thought I should do to improve my cricket and be successful in the shortest format. Their ideas and feedback did help me in improving my batting,” Rahul told reporters ahead of Indian  team’s departure to Zimbabwe”

K L Rahul is making his debut from this Zimbabwe tour. Before it, he has played 5 Tests for India, in which he has scored 256 runs at an average of 25.60 with two hundreds. In the upcoming Zimbabwe tour, he will open the batting for India as Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan have been rested. K L Rahul said, “I don’t know how the wickets are in Zimbabwe. It will be definitely challenging for the opening batsman and it’s a responsibility that I have enjoyed, to go out there and give a solid start to my team”.  He also said, “I would like to be in the playing XI and I don’t care where I play. It does not really matter where I bat”

K L rahul played for Royal Challengers Bngalore as a wicket-keeper batsman. He said about wicket-keeping, “I will get some time with MS Dhoni in Zimbabwe and my plan is to try to work with him on my wicket-keeping skills and see what feedback he has for me”

In the upcoming Zimbabwe tour India will play 3 ODIS and 3 T20Is. Mahendra Singh Dhoni will lead the Indian side.

Sri Lankan Cricket Board has announced the One Day International (ODI) squad for their upcoming series against Ireland and England. Sri Lanka are scheduled to play 2 One day International matches against Ireland on June 16 and 18, followed by the 5 match ODI series against England starting from June 21.

Sri Lankan Cricket are going through the transition phase right now after the retirement of some of their greatest Cricketers ever. All-rounder Farveez Maharoof, who last played an International game in March 2012, along with Upul Tharanga, Dhanushka Gunathilaka, Suraj Randiv and Seekuge Prasanna has been given a call-up to join their team mates in UK.

It’s been a tough summer for Sri Lanka so far in England as they are finding it hard to cope up to the conditions and also against the English bowlers. James Anderson and Stuart Broad in particular, have wrecked the Sri Lankan batting lineup in both the Test matches. Sri Lanka will play for pride in the 3rd Test starting from tomorrow at Lord’s, and also will be hoping that with the addition of some fresh and some experienced players in the ODI squad the result will be different.

Sri Lanka Squad for the ODI matches against Ireland and England: Dhananjaya de Silva, Angelo Mathews, Dasun Shanaka, Kusal Perera, Dinesh Chandimal, Kusal Mendis, Lahiru Thirimanne, Milinda Siriwardana, Nuwan Pradeep, Shaminda Eranga, Suranga Lakmal, Chaminda Bandara, Farveez Maharoof, Upul Tharanga, Danushka Gunathilaka, Suraj Randiv, Seekkuge Prasanna

South Africa a has agreed to play day night Test on Australia Tour from November 24 in Adelaide. Australia have already hosted a day night Test match against New Zealand on November 27, last year in the same venue. This will be an another historic mark in Australia’s Cricket history as they are going to host 2nd day night test match this year against the Proteas. Cricket Australia CEO, James Sutherland thanked Cricket South Africa to support day night test match. Sutherland said “Cricket fans will be delighted to hear the news that the third match of the Test series against South Africa will be played as a day-night match, particularly those planning to attend the Adelaide Oval match.”

Sutherland further went onto say “Nearly 124,000 people attended the inaugural day-night Test match (against New Zealand) in Adelaide last year and there has been great anticipation about future day-night Tests since.  It’s wonderful that the next one in Australia will be against South Africa. This announcement will further fuel the excitement about what promises to be a fascinating series between these two formidable rivals.”

Cricket South Africa CEO, Haroon Lorgart said, “Following careful consideration and engagement with all our Test players, and recognizing the need to exploit the potential of playing day-night Test cricket, I am pleased to announce that we have agreed with Cricket Australia to proceed with this fixture”. He also said, “Our Proteas were initially hesitant to play such a key Test match without previous experience and adequate preparation but after working through all their concerns and possible options to prepare sufficiently, there is newfound excitement for this novel Test match.  Our players deserve credit for the way they have worked through the issues which were clearly not insignificant.”

South African Cricket Team is scheduled to arrive in Australia in mid of October and immediately they will proceed to Adelaide to play two-day tour match as part of their preparation. Also they will have an additional two-day warm up match under lights before the scheduled day night test match.

Tri-Nation Series 3rd ODI: Proteas bowlers were outstanding in defence

South Africa went into the match against Australia low on confidence having outdone by the hosts in the very first game of the series. On the other hand, Australia went into the match against the Proteas high on confidence having humiliated the hosts comfortably in their first game of the series. Proteas Skipper AB de Villiers won the toss and opted to bat first on a slow Guyana deck, South Africa could only managed to post 189 on the board batting first, another defeat seemed around the corner. However, the South African put up an inspired bowling effort effort to outdo the Aussies. All the Proteas bowlers came to the party when it was needed the most, from the opening fast bowling pair of Rabada and Parnell to the spin duo of Tahir and Shamsi all did their job magnificently well to defend a low score of 189. Aussie batsmen were clearly caught off guard by the disciplined Proteas bowling.

Although South Africa’s bowlers bailed them out of a tricky situation, the contribution of Farhaan Behardien was hard to ignore with the bat. When he came into bat, the Proteas were in all sorts of trouble. But, Behardein assessed the situation well, and instead of going for the big shots, applied himself and formed a little partnerships, first one of 37 runs for the 7th wicket with Phangiso and then the partnership of 39 with Rabada before he gets himself out while trying to up the ante in the final over of the inning.

Australia struggled because, they never managed to get going. Chasing a mere total of 190 runs, what they needed was a couple of decent partnerships to see them through. But, the fact that they fell way short of the target in spite of two of their batsmen Finch (72) and Lyon (30) contributing 102 runs of their own, is a clear demonstration of how poor the other batsmen were. What the Proteas did excellently well in the chase was to keep the Aussies under the pump right from the start, and never allowed the pressure to release. Wayne Parnell, the comeback man, bowled superbly with the new ball to get rid of the in-form and dangerous David Warner and the Aussie skipper Steven Smith cheaply. Kagiso Rabada stood out with the figures of 7-1-13-3, Usman Khawaja, Matthew Wade and Coulter-Nile were among his victims. The slow bowlers of the Proteas did not disappoint either. Imran Tahir got the big wicket of Mitchell Marsh before the dangerous all-rounder could get himself in. Tahir ended up with the figures of 8-0-39-2. Tahir was equally well supported by the debutant Tabraiz Shamsi who struck in his very first over to remove the struggling Maxwell, Shamsi’s impressive debut spell reads: 8-1-36-1.

Despite of the victory, South Africa should be disappointed with their batting effort. All the big guns – Hashim Amla, Quinton de Kock, skipper AB de Villiers and JP Duminy failed for the second game in a row, they all will need to pull up their socks. As for Australia the loss is perhaps an eye opener of the fact that they are becoming increasingly dependent on David Warner to win them games.

Brief Scores: South Africa 189/9 in 50 Overs (Farhaan Behardien 62*, Hashim Amla 35; Glenn Maxwell 2-15, Josh Hazlewood 2-20) beat Australia 142 (all-out) in 34.2 overs (Aaron Finch 72, Nathan Lyon 30; Kagiso Rabada 3-13, Wayne Parnell 2-23) by 47 runs

Hello and warm welcome to all of you for the live coverage of 3rd match of Ballr Cup Tri-Series 2016 between Australia vs South Africa live from Providence Stadium, Guyana. Australia started their campaign with an emphatic win over West Indies, while South Africa lost to West Indies in their first match. Both teams will play with a different mindsets today.

Australia and South Africa started their campaign in the Tri-Nation Series in a different way. South Africa lost to West Indies by 4 wickets while Australia beat the same side by 6 wickets in their respective opening matches. Now Australia and South Africa will go in with different mindsets as they take on each other in the third match of Tri-Nation Series 2016. While South Africa will be seeking to taste their first win in the Tri-Series, Australia will look to continue their winning run. The pitches in both the matches have been spin friendly, and the performance of the slow bowlers from either side could again decide the fate of the contest. Both the games so far have been low-scoring encounters, and another one could also be on the cards.

South Africa batted very poorly in their openning match of Tri-Nation series as Sunile Narine was simply unplayable for the Proteas. Sunil Narine registered his best figure in One Day International Cricket (9.5-0-27-6). The top five South African Batsmen did get start but couldn’t convert it to the big one. De Kock who has been in good form since last few months had a rare off day on the opening match of the Tri-Series. He will be keen to get his side off to a good start with Hashim Amla. Rilee Rossouw got a half century against the hosts in the first match will be looking forward to continue his good form in the Tri-Series. AB de Villiers, South African skipper as usual will again be in the centre of attention. He has an unbelievable record in One Day Internationals. He will also be looking forward to make some contribution against the World Champions. In the all-round department south Africa must be hoping that Chris Morris can come up with some worthy contributions with bat and ball.

On the other side, Australia will be full of confidence against South Africa. In the second match of the Tri-Nation Series, Australia outplayed West Indies in every department of the game. Spin was the main weapon for Australia in the match against West Indies. Nathan Lyon was simply unbelievable against West Indies as he picked up key wickets in the middle order. Lyon was well supported by Adam Zampa as he wrapped up the West Indian Lower Order along with Mitchell Starc.

Not only bowling, South Africa will also have to go through the mighty batting line up of Australia. David Warner who presently has been in the dream form of his life got an unbeaten half century against West Indies in the 2nd match of Tri-Nation Series 2016 and guided Australia to an easy win. But Australia were not at their absolute best against the Windies as Finch, Khawaja, Smith and Bailey will be looking forward to make some worthy contribution. Although, Australia will definitely have the upper hand against South Africa, but the Proteas would be desperate to get on the board as well.

Now, let’s have a look at the probable playing XI and 5 key players of both the teams :-

Australia (Probable XI) : David Warner, Aaron Finch, Usman Khawaja, Steven Smith(c), Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Marsh, Matthew Wade(w), Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa, Josh Hazlewood, Nathan Lyon

South Africa (Probable XI) : Quinton de Kock(w), Hashim Amla, Rilee Rossouw, AB de Villiers(c), Jean-Paul Duminy, Farhaan Behardien, Chris Morris, Kyle Abbott, Aaron Phangiso, Kagiso Rabada, Imran Tahir

5 Key Players (Australia) : David Warner, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa, Nathan Lyon

5 Key Players (South Africa) : AB de Villiers, Quinton de Kock, Hashim Amla, Imran Tahir, Kagiso Rabada

England fast bowler Stuart Broad has spoke out about his thoughts on playing against the tainted Pakistani fast bowler Mohammad Amir. It is very clear from what Broad has insisted that he won’t have any issues playing against Mohammad Amir who is about to make his Test return on July 14, at Lord’s.

It was the same venue (Lord’s) where six years ago the talented left-armer from Pakistan along with his two team-mates (Mohammad Asif and Salman Butt) were involved in the deliberate bowling of no balls. Amir was a teenager at that time, therefore had the sympathy from the Cricketing fraternity. Although, he was sent to jail by an English court and banned from taking part in any Cricket event worldwide for five years. Amir has served his ban now and has been included in the squad for the four match Test series against England starting next month.

Stuart Broad speaking at an event on Monday said : “I don’t think any feelings will be dragged into this Test match from that one. There are only four players in (this) England team from then, and Pakistan had a huge change-over, so I don’t think any ill-feeling or negativity from the players will have carried through.”

Turning to Amir’s possible return, Broad said: “I think he’s served his time. As far as quality is concerned, I don’t think there is much doubt that he is up there with anyone. I’ve not played him for six years, but in 2010 he was a constant threat. It swung round corners for him.”

However, Broad feels that “The crowd might be a different story. There was a lively reaction to Ben Stokes dismissal at Lord’s last year, and it looked like a nasty atmosphere for a while.”

RAVI SHASTRI HAS APPLIED FOR NATIONAL HEAD COACH

RAVI SHASTRI HAS APPLIED FOR NATIONAL HEAD COACH

Ravi Shastri, Board of Control for Cricket in India, Head Coach, National Head Coach, India's Head coach, Kohli, Rohit, Rahane, Ishant, Ashwin, Umesh

After ending his contract with Team India as a director Ravi Shastri now has applied for the post of national head coach. Shastri who has recently worked with the team as a director from India’s tour of England 2014 to ICC World T20 2016 confirmed about his application to the Press Trust of India on Monday.

“Yes, I have applied for the chief coach’s post today morning. I have e-mailed all the requisite documents that were asked for in the advertisement, Whatever is required by the BCCI, I have provided them. If you ask me whether I am confident or not, all I can say is that my job was to apply for the post and I have done that. I cannot comment on anything else.” Said Ravi Shastri.

One can’t deny the fact that during Ravi Shastri’s tenure as a team director, Indian team has a very good success rate, win % in Tests, ODIs and T20s were most of the time beyond 70, which is an indication that how much this young Indian team was enjoying playing under him. Under Shastri India made it to semi-finals of successive global events – the 2015 World Cup and the 2016 World T20, and also climbed to No. 1 on the Test rankings for a period of eight weeks until Australia took over in February 2016. In this period, India also won their first limited-overs bilateral series in Australia, by whitewashing the hosts 3-0 in a T20 series, won the Test series in Sri Lanka after 23 years. Thrashed the No. 1 Test side (South Africa) 3-0

India’s premier batsman and the Test skipper Virat Kohli also gives credit to Ravi Shastri for his success in 2014 Australia tour where Kohli scored 4 centuries in 4 Tests. “Shastri told me to tweak my stance a bit and stay out of the crease to negotiate the amount of swing and minimise the problem which I had outside the off stump. ” Kohli said in 2014-2015

Apart from Shastri, current chairman of selectors and former India coach Sandeep Patil has also applied for the post. However, the support staff which worked during Shastri’s tenure – Sanjay Bangar, R Sridhar and B Arun – have not yet applied as BCCI sources believe that they would like to continue in their earlier roles depending on the requirements of the board, Although Sanjay Bangar will go with the team as a coach in the upcoming tour of Zimbabwe.

India will play 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is in this series. CricBol.com brings you the 5 most exciting Indian players to watch out for from this series :-

YUZVENDRA CHAHAL

One of the leading wicket takers from Royal Challengers Bangalore in this season of IPL has been finally selected for Indian Cricket Team for an international assignment and deservedly so. After the successful IPL season and domestic tournament, Chahal is all set to make his debut in Zimbabwe. Hopefully he will carry his form in International Cricket too. We will have to wait and watch. We wish him well for the upcoming series.

Manish Pandey

Manish Pandey, one of the most trusted batsman of Kolkata Knight Riders has been selected for India’s Tour of Zimbabwe. Although, Manish Pandey’s performance was not so impressive in VIVO IPL 2016 but Manish Pandey will feel lucky for himself as he got an opportunity to bring back his form and show some outstanding batting which could help India to win the series against Zimbabwe. Before this series, Manish Pandey has played 4 ODIs for India in which he scored 181 runs with one fifty and a hundred. Manish Pandey has played 3 T20Is for India in which he scored 19 runs. Hopefully this will be a better series for him.

Rishi Dhawan

Rishi Dhawan was the most surprise selection from the selectors for Team India for this series. Rishi Dhawan last time played for India against Australia earlier this year and in that series he showed some promise with his all-round ability. Although, his IPL performance this year was not up to the mark but you can say that selectors have gambled on Rishi Dhawan. Let’s see what does Rishi Dhawan has in store for us.

Axar Patel

Axar Patel who was one of the best bowler for Kings XI Punjab in VIVO IPL 2016 was the deserving candidate for selection in the Indian Team. Axar has played 22 ODIs and 4 T20Is for India in which he has scored 807 and 102 runs and took 28 and 5 wickets respectively. Due to some fitness issues, Axar was rested after ICC cricket World Cup 2015. Now he is back and ready to showcase his talent in the upcoming series against India.

Dhawal Kulkarni

Dhawal Kulkarni has been one of the most consistent bowler for his teams either in IPL matches or Domestic tournament but his performance were ignored most of the time. Now, this time selectors have given Dhawal Kulkarni an opportunity to showcase his talent in India’s tour against Zimbabwe. Hope he does live up to expectations of selectors and make a permanent place for himself in the team.
