After the success of day-night Test match between Australia and New Zealand at the Adelaide Oval last year, BCCI is also taking every possible steps to make it a huge success in India.

In the 2016-2017 season India are to play 13 Test matches at home against different oppositions. India will kick-off the home season with a one match Test series against Bangladesh, that will going to be followed by three, five and four match Test series against New Zealand, England and Australia respectively. As per the sources one Test against New Zealand later this year and one against Australia earlier next year may be include as a day-night Test match.

Talking about the possibility of the day-night Test in the upcoming season BCCI President ‘Anurag Thakur’ said, “There are a lot of factors that need to be taken into account. Besides the dew factor, we have to also examine how the spinners will bowl with the pink Kookaburra on Indian pitches. These things we will get an idea (of) during the Duleep Trophy”

Seven out of 10 Test-playing nations currently use the Kookaburra ball, the Dukes ball is used in England and in the West Indies, while India uses the SG. Though Thakur said a pink SG ball remains a possibility in the future, it will have to match the Kookaburra’s quality.

Anurag Thakur said about the Pink ball: “We may ask SG to manufacture pink balls, but that has to be of the quality of pink balls that Kookaburra produces”.

KL Rahul’s debut ton crash the depleted Zimbabwe –

KL Rahul’s debut ton crash the depleted Zimbabwe –

Making his ODI debut after a wonderful time in the recently concluded Indian Premier League, KL RAHUL along with the comeback man Ambati Rayudu shared an unbeaten 162 runs partnership for the second wicket as India outclassed the host (Zimbabwe) in every department to win the first match of the series by 9 wickets at the Harare Sports Club on Saturday.

Just like the previous 2 years Indian selectors again sent the second string Indian team to tour Zimbabwe. For the ‘Men in Blue’ this tour is all about experiments and testing out the bench strength to showcase their potential at the highest level. In the absence of Shami, Umesh and Ishant the responsibility to spearhead the attack was on a 22-year young shoulder of Jasprit Bumrah. Similarly, In the batting department the onus was on 24-year old Lokesh Rahul to provide India with a good start in the absence of all the big guns and both of them did their bit exceedingly well with the ball and bat respectively to script a comfortable victory for India.

Indian Captain MS Dhoni won the toss and without an iota of hesitation opted to bowl first, and the bowlers responded exactly the way Dhoni would have wanted. Barinder Sran and Dhawal Kulkarni consistently bowled on a beautiful channel to trouble the Zimbabwe top order. Sran in particular extract some serious swing with the new ball and bowled on the ‘corridor of uncertainty’. Both Sran and Kulkarni finished their spell with an almost identical figures of 10-0-42-2 and 10-1-42-2 respectively. Jasprit Bumrah came in as a first change and was absolutely all over the Zimbabwe’s middle order and tail enders as he continuously  bowled in the block hole and gave absolutely no room to free the arms to any of the batsmen. He was the pick of the bowler for his magnificent spell of (9.5-2-28-4). The Offie Axar Patel and the leggie Yuzvendra Chahal also played their role to perfection. As a result of a fabulous bowling performance from all the Indian bowlers Zimbabwe couldn’t even play out their quota of 50 overs as they got bowled out on 168 in 49.5 overs.

India began their run chase of 169 in a not so positive way as Karun Nair miss-timed a cut shot off Tendai Chatara and offered an easy catch to Sikandar Raza at short cover on 7 of 20 balls, India lose their first wicket on 11. However, KL Rahul did not make such mistakes as he made the full use of this opportunity. The 24-year old carried his IPL form into this match and made it a memorable ODI debut for himself and India. He along with Rayudu did not allow Zimbabwe to get back into the match at any moment. After a slow start the pair got into the groove and finished the match with 45 balls to spare. Towards the end, when Rahul was nearing his maiden ODI ton, Rayudu provided him some excellent support by keeping himself quiet and allowing his partner to score the bulk of the runs. In the end a half a dozen over long on off Masakadza did the job for Rahul as he became the first Indian and 11th batsman overall to score a ton on ODI debut. Rayudu at the other end remained unbeaten for 62 as India cruised through to a 9 wicket win with 45 balls to spare and virtue of the win also took a lead of 1-0 in the 3 match ODI series. The next ODI is also scheduled to be played at the same venue on Monday.

Brief Scores: Zimbabwe 168 in 49.5 overs (Elton Chigumbura 41; Jasprit Bumrah 4-28, Barinder Sran 2-42, Dhawal Kulkarni 2-42) lost to India 173/1 in 42.3 overs (Lokesh Rahul 100*, Ambati Rayudu 62*) by 9 wickets.

Former Sri Lankan legendary batsman Kumar Sangakkara expressed his anguish over the Decision Review System (DRS), after England batsman Jonny Bairstow survived a mighty close call for the leg before wicket on Day 1 of the third Test at Lord’s. Johnny Bairstow, who was on 56, at that time, went on to make an unbeaten 107 as England ended the first day with the slightly upper hand at 279/6.

The legendary left handed batsman took to twitter to express his concern over the inconsistency of Decision Review System, In a series of tweets done by Sangakkara, he suggested that the rule should be changed.

Yesterday Sri Lanka frustratingly lost one of their two reviews available due to the unsuccessful challenge. However, the benefit of the doubt given to the batsman in the Decision Review System could soon be reduced by half. Currently, 50 % of the ball has to be striking the stumps for a batsman to be given out lbw and overturn a not-out verdict by the on-field umpire. Mahela Jayawardene, who is now part of  the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) cricket committee, revealed that a recommendation has been made to change the DRS rule for LBW.

“We’ve decided that the 50 percent rule should be reduced to 25 per cent, You think benefit of the doubt when sometimes umpires are considering those margins, that 25 percent is okay, but I think 50 per cent is too much.” Jayawardene quoted saying by ESPNcricinfo on Thursday.

All the recommendations by the cricket committee will be discussed at the ICC’s annual meeting in Edinburgh later this month and if approved, then the DRS rule will be reduced from 50 percent to 25 percent and is expected to come into effect by the end of September.

India vs Zimbabwe 1st ODI preview: Chance for youngsters to showcase their potential

India vs Zimbabwe 1st ODI preview: Chance for youngsters to showcase their talent

India's Tour Of Zimbabwe 2016, Zimbabwe Cricket, Board of Control for Cricket in India, Cremer, Dhoni, Zimbabwe vs India, ZIMvsIND, ODI, One Day Cricket, Cremer, Dhoni, Chibhabha, Masakadza, chigambura, Panday, Nair, Dhoni, Tripano, Chatara, Williams, Bumrah, Kulkarni, Chahal, Ntini, Bangar

The India-Zimbabwe series doesn’t generate a lot of buzz among the cricketing fans  and in the media because of the low-profile nature of the hosts, and also because of the star Indian players, the likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane, R Ashwin etc.. have been given a much needed rest after a hectic last 6 months of Cricket.  Although MS Dhoni is there to pilot the bunch of inexperienced players.

Zimbabwe are not the same team what they used to be a couple of decades ago. This is one of the reasons why India often decide to rest seniors when it comes to playing a series against Zimbabwe. Last year Ajinkya Rahane led the team in Zimbabwe while all the seniors were rested. In 2013 Virat Kohli was given the responsibility to lead the side in Zimbabwe and in both the occasions India won all the matches comprehensively. It is imperative that India don’t take Zimbabwe lightly even though MS Dhoni describing the tour as a ‘big challenge’ was taking it a bit too far.

The series will be a perfect opportunity for the youngsters to showcase their potential and for some to fix their place in the playing eleven in the absence of senior players. Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja have been given a break while Suresh Raina has perhaps been dropped again. Among the players getting a deserved chance is Manish Pandey. The talented youngster has performed reasonably well in the limited opportunities that he has got to play for Team India. But, he has been unlucky to not to find a permanent place in the playing eleven with most of the slots in the middle order booked. With the Zimbabwe tour, Pandey gets another chance to reclaim his stake. Remember that in the last ODI that Manish Pandey has played for India he scored a dazzling match winning hundred against the Aussies at the Sydney Cricket Ground earlier this year.

IPL stars Mandeep Singh and Karun Nair have also been selected. Both the batsmen have played some excellent knocks for their respective franchises and will be looking to carry on the good work into the international arena as well. Another interesting selection is Lokesh Rahul. The stylish Karnataka batsman came into the scene as a Test opener in India’s Tour of Australia 2014-2015, and already has a couple of Test tons to his name. But, as a shorter format batsman he came into the picture in the recently concluded IPL where he surprised everyone with his amazing improvisation and clean striking. His strike-rate of 146.49 was a significant achievement for someone who has a tag of being a batsman only suited for the longest format of the game. Ambati Rayudu also makes a comeback, and will be keen to perform and unlike last time he would like to secure his place in the team.

Just like India’s batting, Indian bowling too doesn’t have the much experience to show. With no Ishant Sharma, Mohammad Shami or Umesh Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah will be the new spearhead of the attack, although many also argue that Bumrah should have been rested for this series as he is playing continuously since the start of the year. Bumrah will be supported by the two left-armers Barinder Sran and Jaydev Unadkat. Dhawal Kulkarni will also feature in the attack, all of whom have represented India before, but are yet to establish themselves. The debutant Yuzvendra Chahal will also be looking to impress everyone with his leg spin.

Zimbabwe will be looking to play spoilsport. Graeme Cremer will lead the team, who himself is a very good bowler. Zimbabwe will be seeking their experienced players to stand up and perform for the team. In the batting department, they have a number of good players, Elton Chigumbura, Vusi Sibanda, Sean Williams, Sikandar Raza, Hamilton Masakadza and Craig Ervine. In the bowling department, the hosts would look up to skipper Cremer himself. Although the rest of the attack is inexperienced, but the likes of Donald Tiripano, Wellington Masakadza and Tendai Chatara can do the job.

Adam Zampa, the Australian leggie says Playing Test Cricket is his ultimate goal. Adam Zampa has become a key bowler for Australia in the shorter format of Cricket, now he is aiming to play Test Cricket for Australia. In the recently concluded Indian Premier League, he played for Rising Pune Supergiants and he was their best bowler in the tournament, although he didn’t play all the matches. In 5 matches that he played for the Supergiants he scalped 12 wickets at an outstanding average and economy of 9.58 and 6.76 respectively, with the best bowling figures in the league (4-0-19-6).

In an interview, Adam Zampa says, ”If I keep improving the way I think I’ve been improving, it’s definitely something that I think is on the cards, Nathan Lyon  is doing a great job at the moment and I’m very happy where I am playing Twenty20 and one-day cricket. I just want to keep improving and hopefully if that opportunity does arrive, I’ll definitely be ready for it”.

He has not played many crickets in limited overs game or in domestic level. Although Adam Zampa thinks he needs more experience in the limited overs cricket to be able to play Test Cricket for Australia. Adam Zampa says,” I think I’ve only played about five Shield games in the past 12 months or so,” he told the official Cricket Australia website (cricket.com.au) on Australia’s current Tri-series tour of the West Indies. “It is frustrating only because I really enjoy that format. I love playing for South Australia and Adelaide Oval is a great place to play, so all those things added up means it is frustrating”

Adam Zampa furhter added ”In terms of making it to the next level in that format (Test), I want to keep improving my bowling. I think if I look at myself 12 months ago, 18 months ago, or 24 months ago, I think I’m ten times a better bowler than I was then”

”Obviously I need to work out the conditions, bowling in Australia compared to bowling in places like West Indies or India. I think the more experience I gain (in ODIs) the better I’ll be anyway” Zampa said about him being maturing as a bowler.

Manish Pandey one of the most trusted batsman of Kolkata Knight Riders has been selected for upcoming Zimbabwe Series. He has played 4 One Day Internationals for India so far in which he has made 181 runs at an outstanding average and strike-rate of of 90.50 and 105.23 respectively. Against Australia, he has struck a brilliant century earlier this year to help India win an ODI in the 5 Match ODI Series. He has been very unlucky to miss out on opportunities to play for India after being so consistent domestically and also in IPL in the last three to four seasons.

In the upcoming tour against Zimbabwe, many senior players have been rested and by virtue of it Manish Pandey got a chance to play for India. Now he is fully motivated to make this opportunity count. Manish Pandey said about his selection in the Indian Team that, “My goal is to keep performing and make sure that I fit into that Indian XI and become a permanent member of the squad. My goal for the next couple of years is to be a part of the Indian team and to win games for India. I am working hard towards that and I want to achieve that”. Manish Pandey made his ODI debut against Zimbabwe under Ajinkya Rahane’s captaincy last year in which he scored 71 runs in Harare.

Manish Pandey further went on to say, “This is again going to be a fresh start. We were there last year around the same time and I made my debut in Zimbabwe. It is good to go back there and share those memories, score some runs for India and do my duty”

Manish Pandey said about his fielding that,” I spend as much time on fielding as I spend on my batting. Fielding is a very important part of the game. Some great catches and run-outs definitely change the momentum of the game. I make sure I give enough time to my fielding which helps in my resume as I am a (specialist) batsman”
